Eighteen pyrrolidin-2-one linked benzothiazole, and benzimidazole derivatives (10-27) were designed and synthesized. The structure of the compounds was confirmed by elemental and spectral (IR, H-NMR and MS) data analysis. All the compounds were screened by human monoacylglycerol lipase (hMAGL) inhibition assay. Three benzimidazole compounds, 22 (4-Cl phenyl), 23 (3-Cl,4-F phenyl) and 25 (4-methoxy phenyl) were found to be the most potent, having an IC value of 8.6, 8.0 and 9.4 nm, respectively. Among them, the halogen-substituted phenyl derivatives, compound 22 (4-Cl phenyl) and compound 23 (3-Cl,4-F phenyl), showed micromolar potency against fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), having an IC value of 35 and 24 µm, respectively. Benzimidazole derivative having 4-methoxyphenyl substitution (compound 25) was found to be a selective MAGL inhibitor (IC  = 9.4 nm), with an IC value above 50 µm against FAAH. In the formalin-induced nociception test, compound 25 showed a dose-dependent reduction of pain response in both acute and late phases. At 30 mg/kg dose, it significantly reduced the pain response and showed greater potency than the reference drug gabapentin (GBP).

Background: Antiseptic solutions are commonly utilized during total joint arthroplasty (TJA) to prevent and treat periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The purpose of this study was to investigate which antiseptic solution is most effective against methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) and Escherichia coli biofilms established in vitro on orthopaedic surfaces commonly utilized in total knee arthroplasty: cobalt-chromium (CC), oxidized zirconium (OxZr), and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).

Methods: MSSA and E.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful tool for biomolecule sensing. When combined with a broadband plasmonic structure, label-free, highly sensitive detection of specific molecules is possible. It is non-invasive, sensitive, fast, and can be used for in-situ analysis, unlike enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, fluorescence immunoassay, and radioimmunoassay.

In order to achieve the goal of dual-carbon strategy, China has vigorously developed the photovoltaic industry. However, the life cycle of photovoltaic panels is limited, resulting in a large number of waste photovoltaic laminated modules. Waste photovoltaic laminated modules contain rich metallic and organic resources, and have high recycling value.

In this study, scaffolds based on natural polymer gelatin A, blended with polyvinylpyrrolidone were crosslinked by genipin (0.5 and 1 wt%), in order to investigate their mechanical performance and potential for biomedical application. Semi-solid extrusion (SSE) 3D printing technique was used, enabling in situ crosslinking of the blend during processing.

Article Synopsis
  • * Frailty was measured using the Fried Phenotype criteria, categorizing participants into robust, pre-frail, and frail groups based on their symptoms and physical performance.
  • * Results showed that most participants were pre-frail (50.7%), with those in higher cotinine quartiles generally exhibiting poorer frailty statuses compared to those with lower levels, indicating a possible correlation between smoking intensity and frailty in older adults.
