Behavioral responses to light of early life stages provide insights on the development of photosensitivity in nocturnal species such as Stichopus cf. horrens. In this study, the onset of nocturnal feeding behavior, growth, and survival during early juvenile development (0.56 ± 0.16 cm; 47 days post-settlement) of the species were investigated for 30 days, in the presence (S) or absence (W) of artificial shelters and under three light regimes: constant light (24 L), constant dark (24D), and a 12 -h light, 12 -h dark period (12 L:12D). Juveniles in all treatments fed initially during daytime hours but eventually exhibited a shift to nocturnal feeding by day 11. This behavioral shift to nocturnality was delayed among individuals under constant dark conditions. Continuous light exposure without shelter resulted in low juvenile survival and mass mortality in some replicates of the treatment. In contrast, growth and survival were highest for juveniles in constant dark. This study showed the endogenous control of feeding in this species. It also demonstrated that growth increases significantly when early juveniles are reared with shelters or in constant dark. Optimizing the light regime and type of shelter can improve food accessibility and juvenile growth without hindering the development of photosensitivity in early juveniles. Further studies are needed to enhance the nursery culture of this species.

Background: The industrial feasibility of photosynthetic bioproduction using cyanobacterial platforms remains challenging due to insufficient yields, particularly due to competition between product formation and cellular carbon demands across different temporal phases of growth. This study investigates how circadian clock regulation impacts carbon partitioning between storage, growth, and product synthesis in Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942, and provides insights that suggest potential strategies for enhanced bioproduction.
Results: After entrainment to light-dark cycles, PCC 7942 cultures transitioned to constant light revealed distinct temporal patterns in sucrose production, exhibiting three-fold higher productivity during subjective night compared to subjective day despite moderate down-regulation of genes from the photosynthetic apparatus.

This study assessed the physicochemical parameters, water distribution, and metabolic profiles of wet- and dry-aged dark-cutting Nellore beef meat using TD-NMR and H NMR techniques alongside chemometric analysis. We analysed eight Nellore carcasses (Longissimus lumborum) aged for 28 days using both wet and dry methods. Amines with three alkyl substituents are shown to be strongly microsolvated by water molecules, unless the steric hindrance of the alkyl groups overcompensates the increase in basicity of the N atom by alkylation. The hydrogen bond interaction of the first water molecule is so strong that the softened OH vibration shares its intensity with up to three largely dark states involving quanta of intramolecular bending or stretching and intermolecular stretching vibration. A combination of FTIR, Raman, isotope and chemical substitution spectroscopy in supersonic jet expansions establishes the existence, character and extent of the underlying anharmonic coupling.
