Article Abstract

Endothelial lipase (LIPG/EL) performs fundamental and vital roles in the human body, including cell composition, cytokine expression, and energy provision. Since LIPG predominantly functions as a phospholipase as well as presents low levels of triglyceride lipase activity, it plays an essential role in lipoprotein metabolism, and involves in the metabolic syndromes such as inflammatory response and atherosclerosis. Cytokines significantly affect LIPG expression in endothelial cells in many diseases. Recently, it is suggested that LIPG contributes to cancer initiation and progression, and LIPG attached increasing importance to its potential for future targeted therapy.

Background: Microsatellite instability (MSI) significantly impacts treatment response and outcomes in colon cancer; however, its underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to identify prognostic biomarkers by comparing MSI and microsatellite stability (MSS).

Methods: Data from the GSE39582 dataset downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database were analyzed for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and immune cell infiltration between MSI and MSS.

Metabolic Transcriptional Activation in Ulcerative Colitis Identified Through scRNA-seq Analysis.

Genes (Basel)

October 2024

INSERM U993, Unité Organisation Nucléaire et Oncogenèse, Institut Pasteur, Université Paris Cité, 75006 Paris, France.

Background: Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the colon. During chronic inflammation of epithelial cells, lipid metabolism via pro-inflammatory eicosanoids is known to modify the immune response.

Methods: Starting from the Mammalian Metabolic Database, the expression of metabolic enzymes was investigated in two independent cohorts from transcriptome datasets GSE38713 and GSE11223, which analyzed ulcerative colitis tissue samples from the digestive tract.

EPAS1 Attenuates Atherosclerosis Initiation at Disturbed Flow Sites Through Endothelial Fatty Acid Uptake.

Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology (S.T., B.T.-A., P.C.E.), William Harvey Research Institute, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom.

Background: Atherosclerotic plaques form unevenly due to disturbed blood flow, causing localized endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction. Obesity exacerbates this process, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are unclear. The transcription factor EPAS1 (HIF2A) has regulatory roles in endothelium, but its involvement in atherosclerosis remains unexplored.

Article Synopsis
  • White striping (WS) is a myopathy found in broiler chickens, marked by white stripes in muscle tissue and linked to economic losses, with its causes still unclear.
  • A study identified 30 differentially expressed genes in the breast muscle of affected chickens, highlighting 14 new candidates connected to muscle development, lipid metabolism, and collagen.
  • The findings suggest that while some genes might play a role in the early development of WS, the expression of others may change as the condition progresses.

ZDHHC1 downregulates LIPG and inhibits colorectal cancer growth via IGF2BP1 Palmitoylation.

Cancer Gene Ther

Department of Digestive Surgical Oncology, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430022, China.

Alteration in lipid metabolism is recognized as a hallmark feature of colorectal cancer (CRC). Protein S-palmitoylation plays a critical role in many different cellular processes including protein-lipid interaction. Zinc Finger DHHC-Type Containing 1 (ZDHHC1, also known as ZNF377) belongs to the palmitoyl-transferase ZDHHC family, and is a potential tumor suppressor.
