COVID-19 is an emerging viral pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, which is the causative agent of unprecedented disease-causing public health threats globally. Worldwide, this outbreak is wreaking havoc due to failure in risk assessment regarding the urgency of the pandemic. As per the reports, many secondary complications which include neurological, nephrological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, immune, and hepatic abnormalities, are linked with COVID -19 infection which is associated with prominent respiratory disorders including pneumonia.

Antiretroviral therapy have significantly improved the treatment of viral infections and reduced the associated mortality and morbidity rates. However, highly effective antiretroviral therapy (HAART) may lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, which could be related to endothelial toxicity. Here, seven antiviral drugs (remdesivir, PF-00835231, ritonavir, lopinavir, efavirenz, zidovudine and abacavir) were characterized against aortic (HAEC) and pulmonary (hLMVEC) endothelial cells, using high-content microscopy.

Objective: During the first wave of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, management of anticoagulation therapy in hospitalized patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) was simplified to low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) followed by oral anticoagulation, mainly owing to the risk of drug-drug interactions. However, not all oral anticoagulants carry the same risk.
Methods: Observational, retrospective, and multicenter study that consecutively included hospitalized patients with AF anticoagulated with LMWH followed by oral anticoagulation or edoxaban concomitantly with empirical COVID-19 therapy.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is a promising technique for monitoring the rapidly increasing use of antiviral drugs during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is essential to evaluate the in-sewer stability of antiviral drugs in order to determine appropriate biomarkers. This study developed an analytical method for quantification of 17 typical antiviral drugs, and investigated the stability of target compounds in sewer through 4 laboratory-scale gravity sewer reactors.
