Establishment of a survival rabbit model for laryngotracheal stenosis: A prospective randomized study.

Laryngoscope Investig Otolaryngol

December 2024

National Engineering Research Center of Light Alloy Net Forming, State Key Laboratory of Metal Matrix Composites, School of Materials Science and Engineering Shanghai Jiao Tong University Shanghai China.

Objective: To develop a reproducible survival rabbit model for laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS).

Methods: Seventy New Zealand white (NZW) rabbits were randomly divided into experimental groups ( = 30) and a control group ( = 40). In experimental groups, a nylon brush was inserted retrograde from the tracheotomy through the subglottis and rotated until a full layer circumferential mucosal injury to cartilage exposure, assisted by fiberoptic laryngoscopy (FOL) visualization.

We assessed the applicability of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to the official testing method for the migration of caprolactam (CPL) from food utensils, containers, and packaging made from polyamide (PA). Hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) columns coated with unmodified silica, carbamoyl, and aminopropyl were used. Water and acetonitrile (ACN) were used as the mobile phase, and the analytical conditions were optimized.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hemorrhage is the main cause of preventable death in trauma situations, leading to military and civilian advancements in medical practices, particularly through the use of tourniquets to manage extremity bleeding and save lives.
  • - While tourniquets have significantly decreased deaths from bleeding in military settings, noncompressible hemorrhage still poses a major risk, especially before patients receive definitive medical care.
  • - The study explores using a small, disposable pressure monitor during resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) to enhance blood pressure monitoring, facilitate better resuscitation practices, and reduce the need for blood products in extreme environments.

Mosquitoes on a chip-environmental DNA-based detection of invasive mosquito species using high-throughput real-time PCR.

Institute for Ecology, Evolution and Diversity, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany.

The monitoring of mosquitoes is of great importance due to their vector competence for a variety of pathogens, which have the potential to imperil human and animal health. Until now mosquito occurrence data is mainly obtained with conventional monitoring methods including active and passive approaches, which can be time- and cost-consuming. New monitoring methods based on environmental DNA (eDNA) could serve as a fast and robust complementary detection system for mosquitoes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a new paper-based system using acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and gold nanobipyramids (AuNBPs) for the on-site detection of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) in food.
  • This system enables colorimetric analysis to indicate the presence of OPs, with impressive sensitivity and accuracy, allowing for detection at very low concentrations in vegetable and rice samples.
  • The portable design and reliability of the system show promise for practical applications in monitoring food safety and can be adapted for various other detection purposes.
