The paper presents a new sensor-less voltage and frequency control method for a stand-alone doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) feeding an isolated load. The proposed control approach directly regulates the magnitude and angle of the rotor-flux vector rather than controlling rotor currents or voltages as in classic field oriented control (FOC). To accurately regulate the magnitude and frequency of stator voltage, two separate closed-loop based PI regulators are employed to evaluate the reference signals of the rotor flux vector magnitude and angle, respectively.

Stimulation of histamine H-receptors produces a positive inotropic effect in the human atrium.

There is a controversy whether histamine H-receptor activation raises or lowers or does not affect contractility in the human heart. Therefore, we studied stimulation of H-receptors in isolated electrically stimulated (one beat per second) human atrial preparations (HAP). For comparison, we measured force of contraction in left atrial preparations (LA) from mice with overexpression of the histamine H-receptor in the heart (H-TG).

Introduction: Proactive esophageal cooling reduces injury during radiofrequency (RF) ablation of the left atrium (LA) for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). New catheters are capable of higher wattage settings up to 90 W (very high-power short duration, vHPSD) for 4 s. Varying power and duration, however, does not eliminate the risk of thermal injury.

Background: Atrial standstill is characterized by the absence of atrial activity. We report a case of a patient with extensive atrial fibrosis who underwent electrophysiologic study (EPS) and electroanatomical mapping (EAM) to identify surviving atrial sites amenable for pacemaker lead implantation.

Case Summary: A 72-year-old man with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial functional mitral regurgitation/tricuspid regurgitation (MR/TR) underwent a Cox-Maze surgery, mitral and tricuspid valve repair, and biatrial plication.

Introduction: Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) exhibit autonomic dysfunction, which contributes to reduced work capacity. The metaboreflex produces exercise-induced sympathoexcitation and can be assessed via post-exercise muscle ischemia (PEMI). Blunted sympathoexcitation is common in individuals with DS and contributes to the physiological basis for reduced work capacity observed this population, but the influence of the metaboreflex is unknown.
