Background: The modality of thoracoabdominal aortic repair (TAAR) is mainly based on left heart bypass (LHB) in western countries, while in our team, it is mainly based on a unique technique, normothermic iliac perfusion, and there is a lack of systematic reports and long-term results. To describe the operative technique and summarize the patient characteristics and outcomes of TAAR with normothermic iliac perfusion in our team in the last decade. Meanwhile, to explore the influence of different previous surgical history on prognosis.

Introduction: Type A acute aortic dissection (TA-AAD) is a great challenge for aortic surgeons. The establishment of a standardized surgical approach, particularly the determination of whether and when to address the aortic arch and the distal aorta in the same operation as the proximal aorta, is still unclear.
Areas Covered: Frozen elephant trunk (FET) has emerged as a valuable treatment for TA-AAD over the last decade.

(1) : Conventional open surgery is still the gold standard for aortic arch disease, and despite recent developments in optimizing strategies for neuroprotection, distal organ perfusion, and myocardial protection, aortic arch replacement is still associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. (2) : We present our case series of 12 patients undergoing surgical management of multiple cardiac diseases involving the aortic arch. In this single-center study, we report our initial experience over a five-year period (from December 2018 to October 2023) with the use of a "debranching first" technique for the supra-aortic vessels of a beating heart, followed by the cardiac step addressing proximal diseases, and a final distal step treating the aortic arch.

Renal ex vivo normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) is under development as an assessment tool for high-risk kidney grafts and as a means of achieving more physiologically accurate organ preservation. On-going hemolysis has been reported during NMP, as this technique relies on red blood cells for oxygen delivery. In this study, we confirm the occurrence of progressive hemolysis during 6-hour kidney NMP.

Hibernation in the thirteen-lined ground squirrel () takes place over 4-6 months and is characterized by multiday bouts of hypothermic torpor (5-7 °C core body temperature) that are regularly interrupted every 1-2 weeks by brief (12-24 h) normothermic active periods called interbout arousals. Our goal was to gain insight into the molecular mechanisms that underlie the hibernator's ability to preserve heart function and avoid the deleterious effects of skeletal muscle disuse atrophy over prolonged periods of inactivity, starvation, and near-freezing body temperatures. To achieve this goal, we performed organelle enrichment of heart and skeletal muscle at five seasonal time points followed by LC-MS-based label-free quantitative proteomics.
