Introduction: Current evidence suggests that pro-inflammatory cytokines, particularly tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) may play an important role in the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder (BD). Our study aims to compare BD patients and controls in terms of serum TNF-α, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 2 (sTNF-R1, sTNF-R2) levels in different phases of BD.

Methods: Eighty-three patients with BD type 1 (27 manic, 22 depressive and 34 euthymic) and twenty-nine healthy controls were included in the study. Serum levels of TNF-α, sTNF-R1, sTNF-R2 levels were evaluated with ELISA kit.

Results: Levels of sTNF-R1 were showed a statistically significant difference between groups. Levels of sTNF-R1 were higher in depression or mania patients than euthymia patients and control subjects. A statistically significant difference in the serum level of sTNF-R1 between patients in acute episode (mania and depression) group and stabile (patients in euthymic episode and controls) group was found in logistic regression analysis. The probability of having acute episode increased threefold for each unit increase in serum level of sTNF-R1. There was no statistically significant difference between the mean serum values of TNF-α and sTNF-R2 between the groups.

Conclusions: sTNF-R1 production was different between acute episode patients and controls or stable BD patients. The result of this study confirms that TNF-R1 may be a state marker representing disease activity for BD.

It is not clear whether immunoregulatory cytokines and cells are associated with Disease Activity Score 28 (DAS28) scores and ultrasound grades/scores. Here, we investigated the relationships between immunoregulatory cytokines or cells and different DAS28 scores or ultrasound grades/scores in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study enrolled 50 RA patients (with 147 visits) who had remission/low/moderate DAS28-ESR scores (92% in remission and low disease activity) at baseline.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of aspirin resistance on the incidence of preeclampsia and maternal serum biomarker levels in pregnant individuals at high-risk of preeclampsia receiving low dose aspirin (LDA).

Study Design: We performed a secondary analysis of a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of LDA (60 mg daily) for preeclampsia prevention in high-risk individuals (N = 524) on pregnancy outcomes and concentrations of PLGF, IL-2, IL-6, thromboxane B2 (TXB), sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2 from maternal serum.

Main Outcome Measures: LDA-resistant individuals were defined as those having a TXB concentration >10 ng/ml or <75 % reduction in concentration at 24-28 weeks after LDA administration.

In this study, we analyzed a relatively large subset of proteins, including 109 kinds of blood-circulating cytokines, and precisely described a cytokine storm in the expression level and the range of fluctuations during hospitalization for COVID-19. Of the proteins analyzed in COVID-19, approximately 70% were detected with Bonferroni-corrected significant differences in comparison with disease severity, clinical outcome, long-term hospitalization, and disease progression and recovery. Specifically, IP-10, sTNF-R1, sTNF-R2, sCD30, sCD163, HGF, SCYB16, IL-16, MIG, SDF-1, and fractalkine were found to be major components of the COVID-19 cytokine storm.

Aims: Inflammation and angiogenesis play an important role in the development of early diabetic kidney disease. We investigated the association of soluble Tumour Necrosis Factor Receptor 1 (sTNF-R1), sTNF-R2 and endostatin with new onset microalbuminuria in normoalbuminuric patients with diabetes mellitus type 2.

Methods: We conducted a case control study to assess serum levels of sTNF-R1, sTNF-R2 and endostatin in 169 patients with new onset microalbuminuria and in 188 matched normoalbuminuric, diabetic controls.

The tumor microenvironment of colorectal cancer (CRC) is heterogenous; thus, it is likely that multiple immune-related and inflammatory markers are simultaneously expressed in the tumor. The aim of this study was to identify immune-related and inflammatory markers expressed in freshly frozen CRC tissues and to investigate whether they are related to the clinicopathological features and prognosis of CRC. Seventy patients with CRC who underwent curative surgical resection between December 2014 and January 2017 were included in this study.
