In the rapid climate change scenario and subsequent rainfall patterns, drought has emerged as a bottleneck for crop production across crops, especially in rainfed rice. Drought significantly affects the development and production of most modern rice cultivars. Thus, recent breeding efforts have aimed to integrate drought tolerance traits in existing rice varieties through conventional and molecular approaches.

Background: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) provide a powerful method for identifying the loci and genes that contribute to disease. However, in many cases, the specific cell types and states that confer disease risk through these genes remain unknown. Determining this relationship is crucial for identifying pathogenic processes and developing therapeutic strategies.

Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the first germline stem cells to emerge during early embryonic development and are essential for the propagation and survival of species. Genome editing creates mutagenesis possibilities in vivo, but the generation of precise mutations in PGCs is still challenging. Here, we report an optimized approach for highly efficient genome editing via introducing biallelic variations in early embryos in zebrafish.

A meta-genome-wide association study across eight psychiatric disorders has highlighted the genetic architecture of pleiotropy in major psychiatric disorders. However, mechanisms underlying pleiotropic effects of the associated variants remain to be explored. We conducted a massively parallel reporter assay to decode the regulatory logic of variants with pleiotropic and disorder-specific effects.

QTL mapping of two RIL populations in multiple environments revealed a consistent QTL for bristle length, and combined with RNA-seq, a potential candidate gene influencing bristle length was identified. Foxtail millet bristles play a vital role in increasing yields and preventing bird damage. However, there is currently limited research on the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying foxtail millet bristle formation, which constrains the genetic improvement and breeding of new foxtail millet varieties.
