Background: High-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) has been used in conjunction with conventional ventilation for premature infants with respiratory failure. We sought to identify parameters that were associated with mortality in subjects who underwent HFJV.

Methods: Subjects were enrolled if birthweight was ≤ 2,000 g and they were ≤ 34 weeks gestational age. Subjects were excluded if they received HFJV at the time of admission because we aimed to study subjects who failed conventional ventilation. Subject demographics, ventilator parameters, and laboratory data were extracted and analyzed. The Mann-Whitney -test was used to assess differences in continuous variables, and the chi-square and Fisher exact tests were used for categorical variables between the groups. To assess variables that were predictive of mortality, we used both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Independent predictors of mortality were identified and used to create a multivariate risk score. Receiver operating characteristic curves were constructed to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the multivariate risk score.

Results: A total of 53 premature subjects ( = 37 male) were studied, of whom 39 (74%) survived to discharge or transfer back to referring hospital. In the univariate model, female sex, older gestational age, higher birthweight, HFJV peak inspiratory pressure at 1 h, and oxygen saturation index at 4 h were associated with mortality. In the final multivariate logistic regression model, female sex (odds ratio 4.1, 95% CI 1.2-19.8, = .044), closed ductus arteriosus (odds ratio 7.7, 95% CI 1.3-39.5, = .016), and oxygen saturation index > 5.5 (odds ratio 6.0, 95% CI 1.5-28.3, = .02) were independent predictors of mortality.

Conclusions: We identified that oxygen saturation index > 5.5 after 4 h of HFJV, female sex, and closed ductus arteriosus were independent predictors of mortality.

Background: Fibrotic types of interstitial lung abnormalities seen on high-resolution computed tomography scans, characterised by traction bronchiolectasis/bronchiectasis with or without honeycombing, are predictors of progression and poor prognostic factors of interstitial lung abnormalities. There are no reports on the clinical characteristics of fibrotic interstitial lung abnormalities on high-resolution computed tomography scans. Therefore, we aimed to examine these clinical characteristics and clarify the predictive factors of fibrotic interstitial lung abnormalities on high-resolution computed tomography scans.

Background: Hypertension (HTN) is a global public health concern and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality. Insulin resistance (IR) plays a crucial role in HTN-related metabolic dysfunction, but its assessment remains challenging. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and its derivatives (TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and TyG-WHtR) have emerged as reliable IR markers.

Background: The triglyceride‒glucose index (TyG index) is a reliable surrogate for insulin resistance (IR) in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and is associated with cardiovascular disease. Recent studies have reported that H-type hypertension is likewise a predictor of adverse events in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). However, the relationship between the TyG index and prognosis in patients with H-type hypertension combined with CHD has not yet been reported.

Sildenafil is one of the most used phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5i) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in clinical practice. A new oral suspension formulation (OSF) of sildenafil has been introduced to overcome the drawbacks of previous formulations. We assess the efficacy and patients' experience with sildenafil 50 mg OSF in men with ED who were taking the sildenafil oro-dispersible film (ODF).

Background And Purpose: Current evidence suggests that tentorial dural arteriovenous fistulas with endovascular treatment offer a high rate of occlusion and reduced procedural risks. Here we report the clinical and angiographic outcomes in patients with tentorial dural arteriovenous fistulas who underwent endovascular treatment as first-line treatment.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 83 patients with tentorial dural arteriovenous fistulas treated at our center from April 2009 to November 2023 using endovascular treatment.
