Isoleucinol, a potential precursor to the essential α-amino acid isoleucine, has been studied using microwave spectroscopy from 2-26 GHz. The measurements between 18-26 GHz were performed with a newly developed segmented chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrometer, which has reduced the cost of the instrument by half compared to a single pulse excitation and direct detection chirped-pulse microwave spectrometer in the same frequency range. The performance of the instrument has been demonstrated and found to be comparable to the previous design. For isoleucinol, the flexibility of the sec-butyl side chain (R = -CH(CH3)CH2CH3) can result in more than 200 different conformers from its five dihedral angles, and experimentally, seven conformers have been assigned. A fit including the hyperfine splitting due to nitrogen nuclear quadrupole coupling for the rotational transitions is reported for all conformers, along with the experimental structures of the three lowest energy conformers. The observed conformers have intramolecular NH-O hydrogen bond interactions, similar to the second energetically favorable conformer of the analogous amino acid, isoleucine. A complete linelist has been provided to facilitate a search for isoleucinol in the interstellar medium.

This study determined the concentrations and seasonal variations of phthalate esters (PAEs) in water and sediment samples of the receiving stream within the vicinity of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife dumpsite. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pollution status of the study area by determining the levels of PAEs in water and sediment samples. This assessment aimed to understand the presence and extent of phthalate ester pollution in the study area.

In this study, silver carp surimi products enriched with Antarctic krill oil high internal phase emulsions (AKO-HIPEs) were cooked using steaming (STE), microwave heating (MIC), and air-frying (AIR), respectively. The gel and flavor properties, lipid quality and stability were investigated. Compared to the MIC and AIR groups, the STE surimi gel added with HIPEs had better texture properties, exhibiting higher water-holding capacity and a more homogeneous structure, while the air-frying treatment resulted in visually brighter surimi products.

The main aim of this work was to study the chemical composition of eighteen ground coffees from different countries and continents with regard to the content of hazardous substances as radioactive elements (K, Ra, Ra, U, U and Cs), metals, including heavy metals, aluminum and some microelements (V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) as well as substances that have a positive effect on human health and well-being (polyphenols, proteins, fats and caffeine). The tests were carried out before and after the brewing process using the following techniques: gamma and beta spectrometry, a microwave-induced plasma optical emission spectrometer (MIP-OES), gravimetric method, UV-Vis spectrophotometry as well as thin-layer chromatography. The leaching percentage of certain elements/compounds in coffee infusions was also measured.

For the first time, rotational constants along with centrifugal distortion constants have been determined for OThS and OCeS. The rotational spectra of these molecules and, in each case, one other isotopologue (OThS and OCeS) were produced utilizing a laser ablation sourcing technique incorporated into a chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrometer operating in the 8 to 18 GHz region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The bent structures determined are in very good agreement with theoretical calculations.

The rotational spectra of a mixture of 2,4-pentanediol (PDL) isomers, comprising both the meso isomers [(2R, 4S) and (2S, 4R)] and the racemic isomers [(2R, 4R) and (2S, 4S)], were recorded using a chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrometer coupled to a supersonic jet expansion. The conformational landscapes of meso- and racemic-PDL were examined using the Conformer-Rotamer Ensemble Sampling Tool and high-level quantum chemical calculations, generating 26 and 25 conformers, respectively. Five sets of rotational transitions were observed and assigned, with two attributed to meso-PDL and the remaining three attributed to racemic-PDL.
