Herein, we report the first access of β-elemene derivatives through the SeO-mediated oxidation reaction. Several new compounds were isolated through such a one-step reaction, and their structures were elucidated using various 2D-NMR techniques. This method provides easy access to multiple oxidative β-elemene derivatives in one single step and represents the first modifications on cyclohexyl ring of β-elemene. It is expected to open up the opportunity for future derivatization on cyclohexyl ring of β-elemene. The new compounds obtained above showed better anti-proliferation activities than β-elemene itself on several cancer cell lines. Among them, compound shows the best activity in antiproliferation assays of A549 and U-87MG cell lines.

EZH2 inhibition induces pyroptosis via RHA-mediated S100A9 overexpression in myelodysplastic syndromes.

Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) represent a group of heterogeneous myeloid clonal diseases derived from aberrant hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is an important regulator in gene expression through methyltransferase-dependent or methyltransferase-independent mechanisms. Herein, we found EZH2 inhibition led to MDS cell pyroptosis through RNA Helicase A (RHA) down-regulation induced overexpression of S100A9, a key regulator of inflammasome activation and pyroptosis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic inflammatory joint disease causing permanent disability, involves exosomes, nanosized mammalian extracellular particles. Circular RNA (circRNA) serves as a biomarker in RA blood samples. This research screened differentially expressed circRNAs in RA patient plasma exosomes for novel diagnostic biomarkers.

Environmental concerns are rising the need to find cost-effective alternatives to fossil oils. In this sense, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are proposed as carbon source for microbial oils production that can be converted into oleochemicals. This investigation took advantage of the outstanding traits of recombinant Yarrowia lipolytica strains to assess the conversion of SCFAs derived from real digestates into odd-chain fatty acids (OCFA).

Background: The significance of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in predicting the prognostic outcomes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has been widely explored, with conflicting results. Therefore, the present meta-analysis aimed to identify the prognostic significance of the CONUT in DLBCL by aggregating current evidence.

Methods: The Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, CNKI and Cochrane Library databases were searched for articles from inception to October 15, 2024.

Background: Fungal pretreatment for partial separation of lignocellulosic components may reduce lignocellulose recalcitrance during the production of biofuels and biochemicals. Quantitative and qualitative modification of plant lignin through genetic engineering or traditional breeding may also reduce the recalcitrance. This study was conducted to examine the effects of combining these two approaches using three white rot fungi and mulberry wood with an altered lignin structure.
