Numerous studies concentrate on the association between X-ray repair cross-complementing group 1 (XRCC1) gene polymorphism and male infertility; however, the results remain inconclusive and inconsistent. Hence, this meta-analysis was conducted to get a precise estimation of the correlation. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were searched to identify the all relevant studies before 3 May 2020. Summary odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were used to assess the strength of the association. Finally, six studies with 1,886 cases and 1,212 controls were included in our study. The result indicated that XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism was significantly associated with male infertility under allelic model (A-allele vs. G-allele: OR = 1.183, p = .003), heterozygote genetic model (AA vs. GA: OR = 1.256, p = .027), recessive genetic model (AA vs. GG + GA: OR = 1.279, p = .012) and dominant genetic model (AA + GA vs. GG: OR = 1.218, p = .026). In addition, in Asian subgroup, statistic correlation remained significant in allelic model (A-allele vs. G-allele: OR = 1.145, p = .025) with rare heterogeneity (I = 0%). In summary, our meta-analysis suggested that XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism was significantly associated with male infertility and the A-allele might be a risk factor for this disease, especially in Asians.

Carvacrol is a common ingredient in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and perfume industries. It possesses various pharmaceutical properties including pain relief, anti-cell death, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory effects. We investigated the protective impact of carvacrol on infertility caused by varicocele in rats.

Chromatin remodeling, which involves the histone-to-protamine exchange process during spermiogenesis, is crucial for sperm nuclear condensation and male fertility. However, the key regulators and underlying molecular mechanisms involved in this process remain largely unexplored. In this study, we discovered that deficiency in the family with sequence similarity 170 member A (Fam170a) led to abnormal sperm nuclear morphology and male infertility in mice, mirroring the observation of very low Fam170a transcription levels in sperm of infertile men with teratozoospermia.

Glutathione reductase (GR) maintains the cellular redox state by reducing oxidized glutathione to glutathione (GSH), which regulates antioxidant defense. Additionally, GR plays an essential role in photosynthesis; however, the mechanism by which GR regulates photosystem II (PSII) is largely unknown. We identified six, three, and three GR genes in Gossypium hirsutum, Gossypium arboreum, and Gossypium raimondii, respectively.

Male infertility is a multifactorial condition for which the underlying causes frequently remain undefined. Genetic factors have long been associated with male fertility. However, many of them are poorly or not at all characterized and their biological functions are unknown.

Humans with mutations in suffer from Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome Type 1 (APS-1). Among many symptoms, men with APS-1 commonly experience testicular insufficiency and infertility, but the mechanisms causing infertility are unknown.
