Preparing for emerging respiratory pathogens is a fundamental requirement for enhancements of the safeguard in healthcare settings. We are facing an increasing pressure to be prepared more than before. Healthcare organizations should be ready to deal with such emerging infectious disease. Here, we share some points that are essential to be considered while we prepare our institutions to prevent the transmission of emerging respiratory pathogens such as MERS-CoV and the recently emerging pandemic of SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19.

The persistent emergence of COVID-19 variants and recurrent waves of infection worldwide underscores the urgent need for vaccines that effectively reduce viral transmission and prevent infections. Current intramuscular (IM) COVID-19 vaccines inadequately protect the upper respiratory mucosa. In response, we have developed a nonadjuvanted, interferon-armed SARS-CoV-2 fusion protein vaccine with IM priming and intranasal (IN) boost sequential immunization.

Objective: This study aims to analyze adverse drug events (ADE) related to romosozumab from the second quarter of 2019 to the third quarter of 2023 from FAERS database.
Methods: The ADE data related to romosozumab from 2019 Q2 to 2023 Q3 were collected. After data normalization, four signal strength quantification algorithms were used: ROR (Reporting Odds Ratios), PRR (Proportional Reporting Ratios), BCPNN (Bayesian Confidence Propagation Neural Network), and EBGM (Empirical Bayesian Geometric Mean).

Narciclasine (Ncs) was effective in sepsis management due to its antioxidant properties. The present study dissected the protective effects of Ncs against sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) and the molecular mechanisms. The SA-AKI mice were developed using cecum ligation and puncture and pretreated with Ncs and adenoviruses.

Solid organ transplantation has emerged as a crucial intervention in the field of medicine. During transplantation, our human body perceives the organ as an exogenous entity or graft, initiating an immune reaction to eliminate it. This immune response ultimately culminates in the rejection of the graft.

Objective: To describe the characteristics of patients diagnosed with acute heart failure (AHF) in emergency departments (EDs) who develop cardiogenic shock (CS) not associated with ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (STACS).
Methods: Information for patients diagnosed with AHF in 23 Spanish EDs and registered between 2009 and 2019 were included for analysis if the patients developed symptoms consistent with CS. We described baseline clinical characteristics related to cardiac decompensation and CS, as well as 30-day mortality.
