We explore effects of light dispersion by a wire-grid polarizer (WGP) in imaging polarimetry. The dispersive characteristics of a WGP, combined with off-axis scene incidence, cause significant non-uniformity. The normalized performance measure of contrast due to dispersion of WGP exceeded 0.84 for transmittance and 0.90 for extinction ratio (maximum non-uniformity at 1 and 0 for uniform performance). Dispersion also produces a lateral spread in the imaging plane, which may induce spectral image misregistration. Without higher-order excitation, the misregistration can be at the least a few pixels long in the detector. In the presence of higher-order modes, the dispersive misregistration can be severe and critical for polarized scene extraction. The results emphasize the need for an imaging polarimeter to be designed to manage the dispersive effects.

A core dielectric cylindrical rod wrapped in a dielectric circular pipe whose outer surface is enclosed by a helical conducting strip grating that is skewed along the axial direction is herein analyzed using the asymptotic strip boundary conditions along with classical vector potential analysis. Targeted for use as a cylindrical holographic antenna, the resultant field solutions facilitate the aperture integration of the equivalent cylindrical surface currents to obtain the radiated far fields. As each rod section of a certain skew angle exhibits a distinct modal attribute; this topology allows for the distribution of the cylindrical surface impedance via the effective refractive index to be modulated, as in gradient-index (GRIN) materials.

This study evaluates the efficacy of twin screw melt granulation (TSMG), and hot-melt extrusion (HME) techniques in enhancing the solubility and dissolution of simvastatin (SIM), a poorly water-soluble drug with low bioavailability. Additionally, the study explores the impact of binary polymer blends on the drug's miscibility, solubility, and in vitro release profile. SIM was processed with various polymeric combinations at a 30% / drug load, and a 1:1 ratio of binary polymer blends, including Soluplus (SOP), Kollidon K12 (K12), Kollidon VA64 (KVA), and Kollicoat IR (KIR).

Background/objectives: The aim was to study the possibilities of biomedical application of gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (GdO NPs) synthesized under industrial conditions, and evaluate their physicochemical properties, redox activity, biological activity, and safety using different human cell lines.
Methods: The powder of GdO NPs was obtained by a process of thermal decomposition of gadolinium carbonate precipitated from nitrate solution, and was studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX). The redox activity of different concentrations of GdO NPs was studied by the optical spectroscopy (OS) method in the photochemical degradation process of methylene blue dye upon irradiation with an optical source.

Porphyrin's excellent biocompatibility and modifiability make it a widely studied photoactive material. However, its large π-bond conjugated structure leads to aggregation and precipitation in physiological solutions, limiting the biomedical applications of porphyrin-based photoactive materials. It has been demonstrated through research that fabricating porphyrin molecules into nanoscale covalent organic frameworks (COFs) structures can circumvent issues such as poor dispersibility resulting from hydrophobicity, thereby significantly augmenting the photoactivity of porphyrin materials.

Background/objectives: A sustained-release formulation of fenofibrate while enhancing drug dissolution with minimal food effect is critical for maximizing the therapeutic benefits of fenofibrate. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an effective solid dispersion formulation of fenofibrate for simultaneous enhancement in the extent and duration of drug exposure.
Methods: Fenofibrate-loaded solid dispersions (FNSDs) were prepared using poloxamer 407 and Eudragit RSPO at varied ratios via solvent evaporation.
