Background: Undiagnosed and untreated atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) can result in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). To obtain an accurate diagnosis, it is crucial to recognize the symptoms and signs suggesting renal artery stenosis (RAS) and perform appropriate diagnostic and treatment procedures afterward.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a 60-year-old female patient with hypertensive crisis, acute heart failure (HF), and pulmonary edema as the initial signs of acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by right RAS and left renal artery occlusion in the presence of severe aortic atherosclerosis revealed on computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the abdomen.

The autoantibodies against the NR1 subunit are well known in the pathomechanism of NMDAR encephalitis. The dysfunction of the NR2 subunit could be a critical factor in this neurological disorder due to its important role in the postsynaptic pathways that direct synaptic plasticity. We report a case of paraneoplastic anti-NMDAR encephalitis presented alongside very severe illness.

Limited Diagnostic Value of miRNAs in Early Trauma-Induced Liver Injury: Only miRNA-122 Emerges as a Late-Phase Marker.

Department of Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics, University Hospital Frankfurt, Goethe University Frankfurt, 60596 Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

: Liver injury is common after abdominal trauma. However, the established biomarkers of liver injury, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lack accuracy. This study investigates whether specific liver-related microRNAs (miRNAs) are released into the circulation in trauma patients with liver injury and whether they can indicate liver damage in the early phase after major trauma.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a prevalent pathological condition of abdomen characterized by sudden onset, high incidence and complex progression. Timely assessment of AP severity is crucial for informing intervention decisions so as to delay deterioration and reduce mortality rates. Existing AP-related scoring systems can only assess current condition of patients and utilize only a single type of clinical data, which is of great limitation.

Omental infarction is a rare cause of acute abdomen, often mimicking more common abdominal emergencies such as appendicitis and cholecystitis, presenting significant diagnostic challenges. A 47-year-old male with a history of ulcerative colitis underwent laparoscopic total colectomy with end ileostomy. Postoperatively, he developed severe abdominal pain, chills, nausea, and increased abdominal distension.
