Background: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare congenital disease characterized by multifocal venous malformations. It remains a considerable challenge in treating the gastrointestinal (GI) venous malformations due to multiple lesions throughout the GI tract, and the likelihood of recurrence. We report a case study of BRBNS in the GI tract, in which GI venous malformations and related GI bleeding were successfully treated with a combination of multiple endoscopic procedures.
Case Presentation: A 17-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for dizziness and hypodynamia. The symptoms persisted for nearly 1 year. The laboratory tests revealed iron-deficiency anemia with abnormally low hemoglobin (Hb), and a strong positive fecal occult blood test. A total of four hemangiomas were detected: one in the stomach, one in the descending colon, and two in the small intestines with a high risk of hemorrhage. Under gastroendoscopy, enteroscopy, and video capsule endoscopy (VCE) throughout the GI tract, the patient underwent surgical treatment. Endoscopic mucosal resection was initially performed in the stomach and colon, and the lesions in the small intestine were resected with laparoscopy auxiliaried by single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE), during which SBE assisted in identifying the lesions. The patient well-tolerated the procedures, and had a favorable prognosis.
Conclusion: The combination of single-balloon enteroscopy-assisted laparoscopy and endoscopic mucosal resection was effective for the present case, which could be considered for patients with similar clinical conditions.

Background: This study aimed to assess the accuracy of tricuspid spectral Doppler (E/A) and tissue Doppler parameters (E/E') to diagnose right ventricular diastolic dysfunction (RVDD) in comparison to American Society of Echocardiography (ASE criteria) in pediatric tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) patients after surgical repair.
Methods: This prospective, observational study was done at a tertiary care hospital involving 40 pediatric TOF patients aged less than 2 years who underwent complete intracardiac repair with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Echocardiographic observations were made using a pediatric transesophageal echocardiography probe after surgical repair in the post-CPB period.

Background: This study aimed to investigate deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) copy number variations (CNVs) in children with neurodevelopmental disorders and their association with craniofacial abnormalities.
Methods: A total of 1,457 children who visited the Child Health Department of our hospital for unexplained Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) between November 2019 and December 2022 were enrolled. Peripheral venous blood samples (2 mL) were collected from the children and their parents for whole-exome sequencing.
Objective: This study sought to evaluate the value of a CO field-flooding device in cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) surgical procedures for congenital heart disease (CHD) performed via a right-side small incision approach.
Methods: Between April 2022 and December 2023, 234 children with simple CHD who underwent CPB via a right-side small incision approach were separated into a control group (n = 93) without the use of a CO field-flooding device and a treatment group (n = 141) in which this device was added to the traditional surgical manual exhaust. Demographic, perioperative, arterial blood gas (ABG), and laboratory test data were then compared between these groups of patients.

A novel microfluidic platform was designed to study the cellular architecture of endothelial cells (ECs) in an environment replicating the 3D organization and flow of blood vessels. In particular, the platform was constructed to investigate EC defects in slow-flow venous malformations (VMs) under varying shear stress and flow conditions. The platform featured a standard microtiter plate footprint containing 32 microfluidic units capable of replicating wall shear stress (WSS) in normal veins and enabling precise control of shear stress and flow directionality without the need for complex pumping systems.
