Arginine (Arg) is involved in tissue metabolism and regulates the immune function; thereby, achieving the detection of Arg is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Herein, dual ratiometric fluorescence sensors were prepared with the blue emission of levorotatory/dextrorotatory carbon dots (CDs) and the red emission of porphyrin (L/D-CDs-PP) for the sensitive and portable detection of Arg. Interestingly, L-CDs-PP and D-CDs-PP displayed not only the dual emission peaks at 493 and 650 nm but also different response modes to Arg; thus, they could serve as dual ratiometric fluorescence sensors to achieve the accurate and reliable detection of Arg, with the detection limit of 23.

Porphyria is a rare and often underdiagnosed metabolic disorder that leads to abdominal pain, pelvic pain, changes in neurological states, and digestive issues due to a buildup of porphyrins in the body. Diagnosis can be especially difficult in young women, where symptoms of porphyria often overlap with gynecological conditions. We present a case of a 37-year-old female patient who was experiencing persistent lower abdominal and pelvic pain, brain fog and confusion, and a rash after long sun exposure.

Hydrogen sulfide is a lethal toxic gas that disrupts cellular respiration in the mitochondrial system. Currently, no antidote is available for the clinical treatment of hydrogen sulfide poisoning. In this study, we investigated the function of iron(III)porphyrin complexes as hydrogen sulfide scavengers in water and evaluated their potential use as therapeutic agents for hydrogen sulfide poisoning.

The porphyrias are a group of disorders of heme biosynthesis, each characterized by an enzymatic defect in the heme biosynthetic pathway. Porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) arises due to the inhibition of uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase (UROD) in the presence of hepatic iron and oxidative stress. Most patients with PCT have evidence of siderosis on liver biopsy, and the disease resolves with iron depletion.

Creatinine is indeed a crucial biomarker for kidney diseases. In this work, a novel electrochemical biosensor based on a copper-hemin metal organic framework [Cu-hemin metal-organic framework (MOF)] nanoflake decorated with palladium (Pd) (Pd/Cu-hemin MOF) was fabricated and incorporated with creatinine deiminase (CD) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for creatinine detection. The formation of a Pd/Cu-hemin MOF composite was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
