Article Synopsis
  • Sinonasal malignancies that invade the orbit have poor prognoses, but a new surgical approach called extended-orbital exenteration (EOE) shows promise in improving outcomes.
  • * A study conducted across three institutions involved 48 orbital dissections and utilized a questionnaire to assess the procedure's feasibility and safety, with feedback from 25 surgeons.
  • * The findings indicate that while endoscopic-EOE is challenging, it is a feasible procedure that needs further clinical validation to evaluate its effectiveness in real-life situations.

Endoscopic Features of Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

Immunol Allergy Clin North Am

May 2024

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Utah, 50 North Medical Drive, SOM 4R118, Salt Lake City, UT 84132, USA.

Edema, rings, exudates, furrows, and strictures (EREFS) represent the major endoscopic features of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). The Endoscopic Reference System (EREFS) grading system is easy to learn and apply during daily clinical practice in the diagnosis and follow-up of EoE patients. When endoscopy is performed by an EoE-experienced physician, the EREFS criteria will identify the majority of EoE patients.

Background: The Dysphagia Symptom Questionnaire (DSQ) is a patient-reported outcome measure that assesses the frequency and severity of dysphagia in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE); however, it has only been validated for use in patients with EoE aged 11-40 years. This study examined the content validity of the DSQ and its usability on an electronic handheld device in children aged 7-10 years with EoE.

Methods: In this qualitative, observational cohort study, participants were recruited to partake in two rounds of interviews.

Post-weaning diarrhoea is a condition of increasing importance due to recent restrictions and bans on the preventive use of antimicrobials and medicinal zinc oxide. For various purposes, it is valuable to monitor the occurrence of post-weaning diarrhoea. The aim of this paper was to propose a protocol for easy and reliable assessment of the prevalence of post-weaning diarrhoea within a section of pigs as an alternative to clinical examination of a random sample of pigs.

Background: Tobacco addiction is the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality worldwide, but only 1 in 20 cessation attempts is supervised by a health professional. The potential advantages of mobile health (mHealth) can circumvent this problem and facilitate tobacco cessation interventions for public health systems. Given its easy scalability to large populations and great potential, chatbots are a potentially useful complement to usual treatment.
