January 2025

Aquatic Organisms Health Laboratory (AQUOS), Aquaculture Department, UFSC, Rodovia Admar Gonzaga 1346, 88037-000, Florianópolis, SC, Brazil. Electronic address:

The study aimed to assess the impact of dietary supplementation with tannic acid on the growth, health, and survival of Oreochromis niloticus following exposure to Aeromonas hydrophila. A total of 320 fish were divided into 16 tanks and assigned to four treatment groups: feed with 0.2 % tannic acid (TA), 0.

Study on toxicity responses in Xenopus tropicalis long-term exposure to norfloxacin, oxytetracycline and arsenic.

Environ Res

January 2025

Institute of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou, 510006, China. Electronic address:

The presence of residues of antibiotics and heavy metals in the global aquatic environment is a widespread potential environmental risk. Here, we studied their effect on Xenopus tropicalis by analysing the hepatotoxic effects of norfloxacin (NOR), oxytetracycline (OTC), and arsenic (As) on its histology, lipidomics, proteases, and cytokines. The results showed that development was inhibited, and additional vacuolation, sinusoids, pyknosis, nuclei, cell lysis, and leukocyte infiltration were observed in the liver after 72 days of exposure to NOR (0.

The ultrastructural identity of some cells in Sphaerolaimus gracilis de Man, 1876.

Tissue Cell

December 2024

University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Yliopistokatu 7, Joensuu FI-80101, Finland. Electronic address:

The fine structure of fibroblasts, lymphocytes, neurosecretory cells, stem cells, and steroidogenic cells in the nematode Sphaerolaimus gracilis was studied by transmission electron microscopy. Fibroblasts, lymphocytes, and stem cells were found in the lateral position at the level of the renette pore (ventral pore). Fibroblasts were characterized by long cellular processes.

The vacuolar anti- activity of neutrophil primary granule peptidyl-arginine deiminase enzymes.

Front Immunol

November 2024

Pulmonary Clinical Science, Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland.

The role of neutrophils in host defense involves several cell processes including phagocytosis, degranulation of antimicrobial proteins, and the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). In turn, dysregulated cell activity is associated with the pathogenesis of airway and rheumatic diseases, in which neutrophil-derived enzymes including peptidyl-arginine deiminases (PADs) play a role. Known physiological functions of PADs in neutrophils are limited to the activity of PAD isotype 4 in histone citrullination in NET formation.
