Published: June 2020

Improvement of the corrosion resistance capability, surface roughness, shining of stainless-steel surface elements after electrochemical polishing (EP) is one of the most important process characteristics. In this paper, the mechanism, obtained parameters, and results were studied on electropolishing of stainless-steel samples based on the review of the literature. The effects of the EP process parameters, especially current density, temperature, time, and the baths used were presented and compared among different studies. The samples made of stainless steel presented in the articles were analysed in terms of, among other things, surface roughness, resistance to corrosion, microhardness, and chemical composition. All results showed that the EP process greatly improved the analysed properties of the stainless-steel surface elements.

The large amount of unfused powder that remains on the surface of Ti6AL4V porous scaffolds prepared by selective laser melting technology is a common problem. Therefore, this article investigated the effects of three different chemical polishing processes on the surface state, pore structure, and mechanical properties of small pore size scaffold materials at different polishing times in the field of implantable medical devices. The results show that the overall treatment effect of the simple chemical polishing process is poor, the internal treatment depth of porous support is insufficient and uneven, and the overall mechanical properties of the sample with the same porosity are average.

Studies on Square Wave and Cyclic Voltammetric Behavior of 1,2- and 1,4-Dihydroxybenzenes and Their Derivatives in Acetic Acid, Ethyl Acetate and Mixtures of the Two.

Department of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pécs, Honvéd Street 1, H-7624 Pécs, Hungary.

An electrochemical investigation of 1,2- and 1,4-dihydroxybenzenes was carried out with platinum macro- and microelectrodes using square wave and cyclic voltammetry techniques. Furthermore, the effect of the two solvents-acetic acid and ethyl acetate-was compared. When using square wave voltammetry, signals only appeared at lower frequencies and only when the supporting electrolyte was in excess, as expected due to the relatively low permittivity of the used solvents.

Departamento de Ingeniería Química y Medio Ambiente, Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Madrid 28006, Spain.

ZrN and TiN thin coatings have been investigated for use on stainless steel for bipolar plates of proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers. Films were deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering using Ar and N from metallic Zr and Ti targets on different substrates to perform a deep characterization of their relevant properties. The effect of the deposition parameters, such as N/Ar ratio, working pressure, or supplied power, has been explored.

Solid-State Diffusion Bonding of Aluminum to Copper for Bimetallic Anode Fabrication.

Materials (Basel)

October 2024

Materials Science and Engineering Area, Escuela Superior de Ciencias Experimentales y Tecnología (ESCET), Rey Juan Carlos University, C/Tulipán s/n, 28933 Móstoles, Madrid, Spain.

The diffusion-bonding technique has been utilized to join various Al alloys (AA1060, AA2024, AA3003) to Cu for bimetallic anode application. This process aims to achieve robust metallic continuity to facilitate electron transfer, while carefully managing the growth of the intermetallic layer at the bonding interface. This control preserves the active volume of aluminum and prevents excessive brittleness of the anode.
