Eyeglasses removal is challenging in removing different kinds of eyeglasses, e.g., rimless glasses, full-rim glasses, and sunglasses, and recovering appropriate eyes. Due to the significant visual variants, the conventional methods lack scalability. Most existing works focus on the frontal face images in the controlled environment, such as the laboratory, and need to design specific systems for different eyeglass types. To address the limitation, we propose a unified eyeglass removal model called the eyeglasses removal generative adversarial network (ERGAN), which could handle different types of glasses in the wild. The proposed method does not depend on the dense annotation of eyeglasses location but benefits from the large-scale face images with weak annotations. Specifically, we study the two relevant tasks simultaneously, that is, removing eyeglasses and wearing eyeglasses. Given two face images with and without eyeglasses, the proposed model learns to swap the eye area in two faces. The generation mechanism focuses on the eye area and invades the difficulty of generating a new face. In the experiment, we show the proposed method achieves a competitive removal quality in terms of realism and diversity. Furthermore, we evaluate ERGAN on several subsequent tasks, such as face verification and facial expression recognition. The experiment shows that our method could serve as a preprocessing method for these tasks.

Myopia is a global public health concern, with a higher prevalence in women than that in male. As the relationship between sex hormone and myopia remains unclear, we aimed to reveal the relationship between sex hormone and myopia by removing the ovaries of mice and measuring changes in ocular parameters related to myopia. Lens-induced myopia (LIM) surgeries were performed on 3-week-old male mice and age-matched female mice to evaluate the effects of sex on myopia development, which indicated a high degree of myopia and rapid progression of axial elongation in male mice.

Introduction: The widespread presence of bisphenol-A (BPA) in consumer goods like water bottles and eyeglass frames raises serious concerns about the chemical's ability to accumulate in human tissues. Molecular filtration and activated carbon adsorption are two of the many BPA treatment technologies that have emerged in response to these issues; both are essential in the removal or degradation of BPA from water sources and industrial effluents.
Content: To secure the long-term health and environmental advantages of BPA treatment approaches, sustainable development is essential.

A manufacturer has released a novel shielding solution (NSS): Rampart M1128 and claimed that the personal protective equipment (PPE) can be removed. This study investigates the scatter intensities with the NSS or the traditional shielding solutions (TSS) including the ceiling-suspended screen and the tableside lead drape. Isodose maps were generated by two series of measurements with an anthropomorphic phantom using NSS and TSS.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the fitting process, clinical performance, and patient satisfaction of hybrid contact lenses (HCL) in patients with keratoconus (KC).
Materials And Methods: Sixty-eight KC patients (35 female, 33 male) who were prescribed HCL were included in the study. Corneal topographic parameters, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) with eyeglasses, the number of HCL trials, prescribed HCL base curve (BC), and visual acuity with HCL were recorded from hospital records.

This paper traces how medical technologies to correct vision were introduced and changed in Korean society until the introduction of Orthokeratology called 'Dream Lens' in the late 1990s. First of all, I outlines the historical background of the introduction and spread of the relatively unfamiliar and expensive Orthokeratology, which is said to "cure" myopia and astigmatism by pressing the cornea. 'Dream Lens', a 'lens for correcting corneal refractive error', was a popular vision correction technology in terms of its name, treatment method, and effect.
