Methods: Information from patients who underwent endoscopy and CT scan in our department was collected and analyzed retrospectively. Three-dimensional reconstruction of hiatus from CT images was performed using 3DSlicer software, and the degree of esophageal hiatus enlargement was compared with the degree of gastroesophageal laxity under retroflexed endoscopy.
Results: Information from 104 patients was included for analysis. The Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.617 ( ≤ 0.001). When subgroup correlation analysis was performed according to the presence of hiatal hernia on CT, the Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.816 ( ≤ 0.001) in the hernia group and 0.351 ( = 0.002) in the nonhernia group. The proportion of hiatal hernia and severe esophagitis was increasing gradually with the degree of gastroesophageal laxity.
Conclusion: The degree of gastroesophageal laxity (cardia or hiatus) under retroflexed endoscopy reflects the degree of esophageal hiatus enlargement; with the degree of gastroesophageal laxity increasing, the proportion of HH and severe esophagitis increases gradually. This may be useful for physicians in China to guide themselves in the selection of patients for endoscopic antireflux treatment.

Portal hypertension is a hemodynamic abnormality that complicates the course of cirrhosis, as well as other diseases that affect the portal venous circulation. The development of portal hypertension compromises prognosis, especially when it rises above a certain threshold known as clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH). In the consensus conference on Portal Hypertension promoted by the Spanish Association for the Study of the Liver and the Hepatic and Digestive diseases area of the Biomedical Research Networking Center (CIBERehd), different aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of portal hypertension caused by cirrhosis or other diseases were discussed.

Mixed neuroendocrine non-neuroendocrine neoplasms constitute rare tumors that are located mainly in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and have high degrees of malignancy, and the frequency of these tumors has been increasing. They consist of a neuroendocrine neoplastic component with another component of adenocarcinoma usually and have a dismal prognosis. The rare GI pure neuroendocrine carcinoma is highly aggressive and requires complex and extensive management since a genetic distinction exists between it and GI non-neuroendocrine neoplasms, which are generally slow-growing lesions.

Background/aims: Globus is often linked with gastroesophageal reflux disease, which influences its treatment strategies. This study aimed to investigate clinical characteristics of patients with refractory proton pump inhibitor (PPI) globus to better understand its etiology.
Methods: Between 2017 and 2023, 123 out of 592 patients with Globus from the Samsung medical center outpatient clinic who were unresponsive to eight weeks of PPI treatment were analyzed.

Introduction: Barrett esophagus (BE) is the precursor to esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). We aimed to assess performance, safety, and tolerability of the EsoGuard (EG) assay on samples collected nonendoscopically with the EsoCheck (EC) device (EG/EC) for BE detection in the intended-use population meeting American College of Gastroenterology guideline criteria (chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease and 3+ additional risk factors).
Methods: We performed a prospective, multicenter study (NCT04293458) to assess EG performance (primary endpoint) on cells collected with EC, for detection of BE and EAC using esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and biopsies as the comparator.
