Background: Functional lesion assessment in stable coronary disease is considered the gold standard. The result of fractional flow reserve (FFR) in stable coronary disease is often a decision-maker for patient qualification. Taking into account the paramount position of FFR, it is crucial to acknowledge and reduce all potential bias.

Aims: In the present study, we quantified the influence of elevated HR on FFR results using a preclinical model and then validated the results in a clinical setting.

Methods And Results: The relationship between FFR and HR was first explored experimentally in a porcine model. A clinical validation study was conducted in patients with isolated moderate lesions in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) or right coronary artery (RCA). In both the experimental and clinical arms, FFR was measured at resting HR and with pacing at 100, 130, 160, and 180 (for pigs) beats per minute. In the porcine model and in the clinical settings, a significant correlation between FFR and HR was confirmed in the LAD (r = 0.89, p < .0001; r = 0.53, p = .00002), but not in the RCA (r = -0.19, p = .5; r = 0.14, p = .3). Post hoc analyses revealed that the FFR values in the LAD at 130/min and above tended to be significantly different from the baseline HR.

Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that in an experimental setting, tachycardia might be responsible for an overestimation of FFR results in LAD lesions.

Background: Genetically immunodeficient mice lacking Il2rg and Rag2 genes have been widely utilized in the field of biomedical research. However, immunodeficient rats, which offer the advantage of larger size, have not been as extensively used to date. Recently, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) rats were generated using CRISPR/Cas9 system, targeting Il2rg and Rag2 in National BioResource Project in Japan.

Objective: He Shi Yu Lin Formula (HSYLF) is a clinically proven prescription for treating premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), and has shown a good curative effect. However, its molecular mechanisms are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of HSYLF and clarify how network pharmacology analysis guides the design of animal experiments, including the selection of effective treatment doses and key targets, to ensure the relevance of the experimental results.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the potential utility of Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) signaling cell detection in the early diagnosis of cervical lesions.

Methods: Enrichment of cervical epithelial cells was carried out using a calibrated membrane with 8-μm diameter pores. RNA-in situ hybridization (RNA-ISH) was employed to detect and characterize EMT cells utilizing specific EMT markers.

An assessment of clinical reception training using standard patient and dental simulator in prosthodontic dentistry for dental undergraduates: a historical control trial.

BMC Med Educ

December 2024

Hospital of Stomatology, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Clinical reception training plays a crucial role in developing undergraduates' clinical thinking and competence. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical reception training conducted by standard patients (SPs) and dental simulators among undergraduate students.

Materials And Methods: In the first week of the internship, sixty-five 5-year undergraduate students were divided into two groups: SP group, which received traditional theoretical training along with clinical reception training, and control group that only received traditional theoretical training.
