Background: The highly technological environment existing in intensive care units, essential for the survival of the newborn, contributes with a potentially devastating and traumatic effect, especially in preterm newborns and in their future lives, due to the early and frequent exposure to multiple stressors. The preterm newborn must be observed in a systematic and structured way, before, during and after any intervention, aiming at the correct assessment and interpretation of his behaviour and signs of stress, and at the timely planning of interventions that minimize and prevent stress. The objective of this review is to identify and map the instruments for assessing stress in preterm newborns admitted to neonatal units in scientific evidence.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of implementing family-integrated newborn care (FINC) for hospitalised preterm and low birthweight infants in Ethiopia. Despite the WHO's call for family engagement in newborn care, evidence of the feasibility of implementation remains scarce.
Design: An observational feasibility study employing a mixed-methods design comprising a quantitative cross-sectional survey among 157 healthcare providers (HCPs) and a qualitative Participatory Rural Appraisal.

Introduction: The birth and admission of a premature infant to the NICU is often an unexpected experience and a mental and spiritual challenge for families. Spiritual health is an influential factor affecting how a mother faces and endures a stressful situation. Improving the mother's spiritual health requires cognitive therapy approaches, including mindfulness techniques.

Background: Antibiotics, as the most commonly prescribed class of drugs in neonatal intensive care units, have an important impact on the developing neonatal gut microbiota. Therefore, comprehending the effects of commonly used antibiotic therapy on the gut microbiota and butyrate-producers in early infants could provide information for therapeutic decision-making in the NICU.
Objectives: To explore the effects of antibiotic therapy on the early development of gut microbiota and butyrate-producers in early infants.

Background: Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (FGIDs) can pose a great burden on affected children, their families, and the healthcare system. Due to the lack of knowledge about the precise pathophysiology of FGIDs, a proper identification of children at risk to develop FGIDs has never been attempted. The research aims to identify early-life risk factors for FGIDs such as infantile colic, regurgitation, and functional constipation, within the first year of life.
