By assessing the precision of gestural interactions with touchscreen targets, the authors investigate how the type of gesture, target location, and scene visibility impact movement endpoints. Participants made visually and memory-guided pointing and swiping gestures with a stylus to targets located in a semicircle. Specific differences in aiming errors were identified between swiping and pointing. In particular, participants overshot the target more when swiping than when pointing and swiping endpoints showed a stronger bias toward the oblique than pointing gestures. As expected, the authors also found specific differences between conditions with and without delays. Overall, the authors observed an influence on movement execution from each of the three parameters studied and uncovered that the information used to guide movement appears to be gesture specific.

Electrovibration haptic technology, which provides tactile feedback to users by swiping the surface with a finger via electroadhesion, shows promise as a haptic feedback platform for displays owing to its simple structure, ease of integration with existing displays, and simple driving mechanism. However, without electrical grounding on a user's body, the frequent requirement of a high driving voltage near 50 V limits the use of electrovibration haptic technology in practical display applications. This study introduces materials and fabrication strategies that considerably reduce the driving voltage.

This study presents a framework for enabling autonomous pick-place operations, addressing the need for efficiency in complex logistics environments using a direct multi-target teaching interface. First, tag and segmentation information were combined to recognize products in a complex warehouse, and a camera was installed on the rack to allow workers to remotely see the work environment, allowing workers to view the work environment in real time through a tablet. Workers can access the camera view showing the rack containing the target product through a swiping action and select the target product through direct teaching action.

A wearable glove-based sensor is a portable and practical approach for onsite detection/monitoring of a variety of chemical threats. Herein, we report a flexible and sensitive wearable sensor fabricated on the nitrile glove fingertips by stencil-printing technique. The working electrodes were modified with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) for sensitive and real-time analyses of hazardous or chemical treats, as picric acid (PA) explosive, diazepam (DZ) as drug-facilitated crimes and the emerging pollutant 4-nitrophenol (4-NP).

Objective: There is a need for low-cost, wide-reaching interventions to enhance accessibility of support for people with hazardous alcohol consumption. We assessed participant experiences of using a novel, personalised mHealth intervention offering approach bias modification (ApBM) for alcohol use in a community sample drinking at harmful levels to enable a deeper understanding of the end user and engagement.
Methods: Eighteen semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with adults in the community drinking at harmful/hazardous levels.
