The effects of dynamic and static load on the intracellular concentrations of sodium [Formula: see text] and potassium (K) in m. soleus and m. biceps, respectively, were studied in mice. Both dynamic (swimming for 60 min) and static (hanging on the grid for 40 min) load led to a 2-fold increase in [Formula: see text] level, a decrease in K concentration by 25-35%, and 3-4-fold increase in the [Formula: see text] ratio. These effects of dynamic and static loads on the studied parameters remained unchanged in mice subjected to regular physical exercise (swimming or hanging on the grid for 1 h a day over 4 weeks). Our results suggest that dissipation of sodium and potassium transmembrane gradients during physical exercise can be considered as a factor of regulation of functional activity of skeletal muscles, which includes changes in transcription and translation of myokines observed previously.

The exploration of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway in living cells is of great significance for achieving tumor diagnosis and treatment. However, visualization of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway induced by specific proteins has rarely been reported. In this paper, we designed and synthesized a fluorescent probe Cy-JQ1 based on the bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) inhibition.

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are composed of nanometric metal-oxide anions and have rich solution chemistry. In this class, Keggin POMs have been identified as the most influential inorganic additives for aqueous nonionic soft matter systems. POMs being at the borderline of classical ions and charged colloids possess fascinating solution properties; the present work aims to delve deeper into the interactions between nanoions and nonionic soft matters from a spectroscopic point of view.

Background: Parental technoference, the interruption of parent-child interactions by technology, has been associated with negative outcomes in children's media use. However, the magnitude of this relationship and its moderating factors remain unclear.
Objective: This study aims to systematically examine the relationship between parental technoference and child problematic media use, as well as to identify moderating factors such as age, parental technoference group, study design, and type of problematic media use.

Pectins underpin the assembly, molecular architecture, and physical properties of plant cell walls and through their effects on cell growth and adhesion influence many aspects of plant development. They are some of the most dynamic components of plant cell walls, and pectin remodeling and degradation by pectin-modifying enzymes can drive developmental programming via physical effects on the cell wall and the generation of oligosaccharides that can act as signaling ligands. Here, we introduce pectin structure and synthesis and discuss pectin functions in plants.

Colloidal crystals of micrometer-sized colloids create prismatic structural colors through the grating diffraction of visible light. Here, we develop design rules to engineer such structural color by specifically accounting for the effect of crystal defects. The local quality and grain size of the colloidal structure are varied by performing self-assembly in the presence of a direct current (DC) electric field.
