We examine the influence of steady shear on structural relaxation in a simulated coarse-grained unentangled polymer melt over a wide range of temperature and shear rates. Shear is found to progressively suppress the α-relaxation process observed in the intermediate scattering function, leading ultimately to a purely inertially dominated β-relaxation at high shear rates, a trend similar to increasing temperature. On the basis of a scaling argument emphasizing dynamic heterogeneity in cooled liquids and its alteration under material deformation, we deduce and validate a parameter-free scaling relation for both the structural relaxation time τ from the intermediate scattering function and the "stretching exponent" β quantifying the extent of dynamic heterogeneity over the entire range of temperatures and shear rates that we can simulate.

This study aimed to measure the whole blood viscosity (WBV) in racehorses using a new viscometer and establish reference values, as well as to investigate the correlation between the WBV and the haematological parameters and serum chemistry. WBV measurements were conducted on 51 Thoroughbred horses using a novel U-shaped scanning capillary-tube viscometer. The reference values for the WBV were determined at various shear rates ranging from 1 s to 1 000 s.

Objective: Although FibroScan (FS), based on Vibration-Controlled Transient Elastography (VCTE), is a widely used non-invasive device for assessing liver fibrosis and steatosis, its current standard-VCTE examination remains timely and difficult on patients with obesity. The Guided-VCTE examination uses continuous shear waves to locate the liver by providing a real-time predictive indicator for shear wave propagation and uses shear wave maps averaging to increase the signal-to-noise ratio in difficult to assess patients. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the new indicator, as well as compare examination times and success rates with both standard-VCTE and Guided-VCTE examinations.
