Objectives: A relationship exists between sirtuin-1 expression and growth and survival of malignant tumors. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of sirtuin-1 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in patients with liposarcoma by examining associations between their expression levels and clinical outcomes.
Methods: Clinical and histopathological characteristics and follow-up and survival information were retrospectively reviewed for 42 liposarcoma cases. Sirtuin-1 and VEGF protein expression levels were evaluated by immunohistochemistry and their associations with clinical parameters were analyzed using the Spearman-rho test. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to identify potential prognostic factors. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to analyze overall survival.
Results: Sirtuin-1 and VEGF protein expression levels were significantly associated with histological grade, metastasis, and American Joint Committee on Cancer stage. A significant positive correlation was observed between sirtuin-1 and VEGF expression levels (R = 0.677). In univariate analysis, sirtuin-1 and VEGF expression were correlated with shorter overall survival, but the association was significant only for sirtuin-1 (hazard ratio = 3.752, 95% confidence interval 1.553-9.062) in multivariate analysis.
Conclusion: Sirtuin-1 and VEGF expression levels are significantly correlated with progression of liposarcoma, and sirtuin-1 expression significantly predicts a poor prognosis in patients with liposarcoma.

Rac/Rop proteins, a kind of unique small GTPases in plants, play crucial roles in plant growth and development and in response to abiotic and biotic stresses. However, it is poorly understood whether cotton Rac/Rop protein genes are involved in mediating cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae. Here, we focused on the function and mechanism of cotton Rac/Rop gene GhRac9 in the defense response to Verticillium dahliae infection.

Inflammatory bone resorption represents a pathological condition marked by an increase in bone loss, commonly associated with chronic inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis. Current therapies primarily focus on anti-inflammatory drugs and bisphosphonates; however, these treatments are limited due to side effects, inadequate efficacy, and unpredictable long-term complications. Kurarinone (KR), a bioactive compound isolated from the traditional Chinese herb Sophora flavescens, exhibits a range of biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and cardiovascular protective effects.

The objective of this study is to explore how adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) regulate mitochondrial structure and function and the impact of this regulation on slowing cellular senescence. HFF-1 cells were induced by HO to establish a cellular senescence model, and ASCs or Mdivi-1 (mitochondrial fission inhibitor) was added. MTT examined the cell proliferation; flow cytometry detected mitochondrial membrane potential as well as apoptosis and cell cycle; kit measured ATP production; ELISA analyzed the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor alpha-like (TNF-α), glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD); Western blotting and qRT-PCR detected the expression of protein and mRNA levels; and β-galactosidase staining observed the degree of cellular senescence.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune condition that damages the myelin sheath of neurons in the central nervous system, resulting in compromised nerve transmission and motor impairment. The astrocytopathy is considered one of the prominent etiological factor in the pathophysiology of demyelination in MS. The expression level of ceramide synthase-2 (CS-2) is yet to be established in the pathophysiology of astrocytopathy although the derailed ceramide biosynthetic pathways is well demonstrated in the pathophysiology of demyelination.

Upon exposure to salt stress, calcium signaling in plants activates various stress-responsive genes and proteins along with enhancement in antioxidant defense to eventually regulate the cellular homeostasis for reducing cytosolic sodium levels. The coordination among the calcium signaling molecules and transporters plays a crucial role in salinity tolerance. In the present study, twenty-one diverse indigenous rice genotypes were evaluated for salt tolerance during the early seedling stage, and out of that nine genotypes were further selected for physio-biochemical study.
