We reported the synthesis of a well-defined hollow polymer nanoparticle derived from star-shaped unimolecular micelles. β-Cyclodextrin was first applied as an efficient macroinitiator to prepare a star-shaped PCL ring-opening polymerization (ROP). Then, the star-shaped PCL was modified to be a macro-RAFT agent for photoinduced electron/energy transfer-reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (PET-RAFT) polymerization of S-Cl monomers. The prepared unimolecular micelles can be photocross-linked under UV irradiation after a simple nucleophilic substitution reaction, which made -Cl groups to be -N groups. After the selective removal of the PCL core, hollow polymer nanoparticles were achieved and exhibited to be a general nanoreactor strategy for the fabrication of nanocrystals with well-controlled architectures. Compared with unimolecular micelle templates, the nanocrystals prepared by hollow templates are absolutely pure as no polymer chains are embedded in the inorganic nanocrystals. In addition, by changing the concentration of the precursor, the structure of the nanocrystal can be changed from a normal spherical structure to a hollow structure.

The main advantages of microneedles are precise drug delivery through human skin, minimal tissue damage and painlessness. We conducted structural analysis and skin puncture studies of hollow microneedles using ANSYS for three materials: Hafnium Dioxide (HfO), Polyglycolic acid (PGA) and Polylactic acid (PLA). Firstly, we selected three lengths, three tip diameters and three base diameters to conduct a L(3) orthogonal experiment.

Carbon-supported Pt-based catalysts are the most effective catalysts for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). However, challenges such as high Pt loading, cost, and susceptibility to CO poisoning severely hinder the development of DMFCs. In this paper, CoFeO@polymer@ZIF-67 is prepared successfully through sequential solution polymerization and in situ growth with modified CoFeO as the core.

Hydrogel-based soft machines are promising in diverse applications, such as biomedical electronics and soft robotics. However, current fabrication techniques generally struggle to construct multimaterial three-dimensional hydrogel architectures for soft machines and robots, owing to the inherent hydrogel softness from the low-density polymer network nature. Herein, we present a multimaterial cryogenic printing (MCP) technique that can fabricate sophisticated soft hydrogel machines with accurate yet complex architectures and robust multimaterial interfaces.

The escalating global problem of antibiotic contamination in wastewater demands innovative and sustainable remediation technologies. This paper presents a highly efficient photocatalytic material for water purification: a three-dimensional ultra-porous structure of interconnected GaN hollow microtetrapods (aero-GaN), its performance being further enhanced by noble metal nanodot functionalization. This novel aero-nanomaterial achieves more than 90 % of tetracycline degradation within 120 min under UV and solar irradiation, demonstrating its effectiveness in both static and dynamic flow conditions, with the potential for reuse and recyclability.

One of the biggest issues of wide bandgap semiconductor use in photocatalytic wastewater treatment is the reusability of the material and avoiding the contamination of water with the material itself. In this paper, we report on a novel TiO aeromaterial (aero-TiO) consisting of hollow microtetrapods with ZnTiO inclusions. Atomic layer deposition has been used to obtain particles of unique shape allowing them to interlock thereby protecting the photocatalyst from erosion and damage when incorporated in active filters.
