Thromboinflammatory response in SARS-CoV-2 sepsis. | LitMetric

Thromboinflammatory response in SARS-CoV-2 sepsis.

Published: July 2020

Viral sepsis is rare, and its real incidence is not known. SARS-CoV-2 infection causes the release of a significant amount of pro-inflammatory cytokines that aggravates interstitial pneumonia and evolves in viral sepsis with prominent hypercoagulability. We believe it is useful and advisable to establish early immunomodulator therapy and the prophylaxis anticoagulant therapy should be rethought.

Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the current standard for serum HBV DNA measurement. However, conventional real-time PCR assays have technical limitations, and are not sensitive enough to detect low-level residual viremia in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. We developed and validated a droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay for high-sensitivity detection of serum HBV DNA.

Canine parvoviral enteritis (CPE) is a highly contagious, acute viral disease that mainly affects young dogs and can lead to systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), sepsis, endotoxemia and even death. The study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic potential of hematological indices such as MLR, NLR, PLR, PNR and SII in CPV-infected dogs with SIRS at first admission. The retrospective study was performed on 51 CPV-infected and 20 healthy dogs.

The outbreak and prevalence of encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) causes significant global mortality and morbidity to the pig industry. Though the current and most effective approach to control EMCV outbreak are done through inactivated vaccines, we have yet to see an effective antiviral agent that directly targets EMCV. Here, we present a molecular therapy consisting of extracellular vesicles (EVs) decorated with EMCV-specific single-chain variable fragment (scFv), engineered on the external loop of the EVS transmembrane domain CD63.

Confusing variety of symptoms: Lyme carditis coinciding with Puumala hantavirus infection.

The temporal coincidence of a tick- and rodent-associated disease led to a confusing variety of symptoms, which posed diagnostic challenges. A 51-year old otherwise healthy patient developed high fever, pronounced cephalgia and acute renal failure a few days after the onset of erythema migrans. Bradycardia and other cardiac symptoms with left ventricular failure occurred in the course of the disease, which were interpreted as Lyme carditis.
