[Abuse deterrent drug formulations for opioids].

Abuse deterrent drug formulations for opioids Misuse of opioids is an increasing problem. Significant medical and social consequences including overdose-related deaths have led to the declaration of an "opioid crisis". The present review article discusses the extent of the problem with a special focus on the situation in Switzerland. Measures are proposed including training of health care providers, regulatory intervention and technical solutions such as the design of abuse-deterrent formulations.
