Nanomaterials applied in industrial processes and environmental fields usually demand immobilization and recovery strategies that often result in functionality loss and added operational costs. Nanoconfinement, the spatial restriction of nano-sized particles within a larger porous substrate, not only can address critical challenges and sustainability concerns in environmental nanotechnology but also offers unique opportunities otherwise inaccessible by unconfined, bulk-phase nanomaterials. In this perspective, we propose mesoporous silica (mSiO) as an innovative framework for spatially confining metal nanoparticles in a well-controlled manner, offering an effective nanoconfinement engineering strategy for sustainable water management and environmental applications.

We take up the historical epic of waves and rays in medicine, starting from the years around the Second World War. In this article, we focus on the benchmarks in the development of radiotherapy, making brief forays into the field of medical imaging when technical developments in this latter field strongly influence the evolution of the former. Following the scientific and technical advances due to the «Manhattan» project, the modern era is witnessing a multitude of medical innovations.

Patterns of extinction risk can vary across taxa, with species of some groups being particularly vulnerable to extinction. Rails (Aves: Rallidae) represent one of the most extreme yet well-documented cases of mass extinction within a modern vertebrate group. Between 54 and 92% of rail species became extinct following waves of human contact during both the Holocene and the Anthropocene eras, and a third of the extant species are currently threatened or near-threatened.

Neuromodulation with low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFUS) holds significant promise for noninvasive treatment of neurological disorders, but its success relies heavily on accurately targeting specific brain regions. Computational model predictions can be used to optimize LIFUS, but uncertain acoustic tissue properties can affect prediction accuracy. The Monte Carlo method is often used to quantify the impact of uncertainties, but many iterations are generally needed for accurate estimates.

This study presents an automated multi-sleep state classification approach for infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) using multiperspective feature extraction methodologies and machine learning to assess their neurological and physical development. The datasets for this study were collected from Children's Hospital Fudan University, Shanghai and consist of electroencephalography (EEG) recordings from two datasets, one comprising 64 neonates and the other 19 neonates.
