Eosinophilic ulcer (EU) is a rare self-limiting chronic benign lesion of the oral mucosa. It is an uncommon and benign disease, which may leading to diagnostic difficulties. Biopsy is recommended to rule out any malignant etiology.

Serum Periostin is Able to Stratify Type 2-Dominant Ulcerative Colitis.

Inflamm Bowel Dis

January 2025

Division of Allergy, Department of Biomolecular Sciences, Saga Medical School, Saga, Japan.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a heterogeneous disease composed of different endotypes. It is important to develop useful biomarkers for endotyping UC; however, available biomarkers are insufficient. We have already established that periostin is a surrogate biomarker of type 2 inflammation.

Achievement of duodenal ulcer remission by vedolizumab in children with eosinophilic gastroenteritis.

Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs) are treated with corticosteroids and food allergen elimination. However, treatment for refractory cases is not standardized. We demonstrate the efficacy of vedolizumab, an anti-α4β7 integrin agent, in 2 children with duodenal ulcers developed by non-eosinophilic esophagitis EGIDs.

Improvement in serum eosinophilia is observed in clinical responders to ustekinumab but not adalimumab in inflammatory bowel disease.

J Crohns Colitis

January 2025

Department of Medicine (Division of Gastroenterology) and Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON L8S 4K1, Canada.

Introduction: In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the number of eosinophils increases in the lamina propria of the intestinal tract, but their specific patho-mechanistic role remains unclear. Elevated blood eosinophil counts in active IBD suggest their potential as biomarkers for predicting response to biological therapies. This study evaluates blood eosinophil count trends and their predictive value for clinical response and endoscopic improvement in patients with IBD receiving ustekinumab or adalimumab induction therapy.

Gastrointestinal lesions of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis: a prediction model and clinical patterns.

Arthritis Res Ther

January 2025

Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, National Clinical Research Center for Dermatologic and Immunologic Diseases, Beijing, China.

Objective: Severe gastrointestinal lesions are associated with a poor prognosis in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). The goal of this study was to develop an effective predictive model for gastrointestinal lesions and to examine clinical patterns, associated factors, treatment, and outcomes of gastrointestinal lesions in EGPA.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 165 EGPA patients.

Gastric habronematidosis in mules: Gastroscopy and histopathology-based diagnosis.

Res Vet Sci

December 2024

Equine Medicine and Surgery Research Line (LIMCE), CENTAURO Research Group, School of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín 050010, Antioquia, Colombia.

This cross-sectional study aimed to describe the presence of gastric habronematidosis using gastroscopy and histopathology as diagnostic methods, in addition to evaluating the relationship between the parasite presence and concurrent gastric diseases. Numerous studies have been carried out with equines, mules not being targeted even though these are representative species because of number and the various agricultural tasks they perform worldwide. To fill this gap in the literature, this study evaluated a population of 97 male and female mules over two years old using two diagnostic methods.
