Paper-based nucleic acid testing techniques are increasingly in demand. Hence, we have developed a simple and cheap paper fluidic device to detect multiple gene targets in Leptospira. Fluidic channels of the penta-clover device are drawn using a correction pen on Whatman filter paper 1. The fluid blocks the pores of the paper, avoiding leakage and ensuring the equal flow of sample to the reaction pads. The target genes are amplified by performing Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) with dry reaction components. Thecolor change of leuco crystal violetallows real-time monitoring of a positive amplification. The difference in color intensity is captured with a smartphone and analyzed using image processing software. The device amplifies the target within 15 min, detects the pathogen at a concentration as low as 50 attogram μL, detects Leptospira in blood samples without prior treatment and differentiates the Leptospira species even after 21 days of storage at room temperature.

Background: Previous studies have shown that motor dysfunction can be an indicator of AD. We measured the observable and dynamic characteristics of spirals drawn by people with AD.
Method: We instructed 23 AD and 40 healthy control (CTRL) participants to perform a range of handwriting tasks on a digital tablet using a pen.
Background: Older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) show decreased flexibility, speed, and fluency in writing, suggesting the feasibility of using quantitative handwriting analysis for MCI detection. Given task variability and the complexities of Chinese versus English characters, investigating Chinese handwriting characteristics is crucial for refining MCI screening approach.
Method: 259 participants (109 with MCI, 150 controls) were engaged to completed six handwriting tasks using a dot-matrix digital pen, encompassing four Chinese characters tasks and two graphical drawing tasks.
Background: Motoric changes are one of the earlier changes in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), but they are often difficult to detect especially in the early stages. In the past, examination of handwriting has been used to investigate motoric changes as a proxy for cognitive impairment. In this study, we explore a wide array of explainable features from the handwriting of patients, obtained using signal processing, and their impact on assessment of AD and Mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
