MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that negatively regulate gene expression and play roles in a wide range of physiological processes, including ontogenesis. Herein, we discovered a novel miRNA, novel miR-26, which inhibits translation of the phosphofructokinase (PFK) gene by targeting the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of directly, thereby inhibiting molting and body length growth of the freshwater shrimp Lowering expression of by RNA interference (RNAi) led to a longer ecdysis cycle and smaller individuals. This phenotype was mirrored in shrimps injected with novel miR-26 agomirs, but the opposite phenotype occurred in shrimps injected with novel miR-26 antagomirs (i.e. the ecdysis cycle was shortened and body length was increased). After injection of 20-hydroxyecdysone (ecdysone 20E), expression of the novel miR-26 was decreased, while expression of was up-regulated, and the fructose-1,6-diphosphate metabolite of PFK accumulated correspondingly. Furthermore, expression of eIF2 (eukaryotic initiation factor 2) increased under stimulation with fructose-1,6-diphosphate, suggesting that protein synthesis was stimulated during this period. Taken together, our results suggest that the novel miR-26 regulates expression of and thereby mediates the molting and growth of .

Cross-species post-transcriptional regulatory potential of plant derived small non-coding microRNAs (miRNAs) has been well documented by plenteous studies. MicroRNAs are transferred to host cells via oral ingestion wherein they play a decisive role in regulation of host genes; thus, miRNAs have evolved as the nascent bioactive molecules imparting pharmacological values to traditionally used medicinal plants. The present study aims to investigate small RNA profiling in order to uncover the potential regulatory role of miRNAs derived from Andrographis paniculata, one of the most widely used herb by tribal communities for liver disorders and document the pharmacological properties of A.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes (50 to 150 nm), have been shown to play important roles in a wide range of physiological and pathological processes, including metabolic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM). In the last decade, several studies have demonstrated how EVs are involved in cell-to-cell communication. EVs are enriched in proteins, mRNAs and non-coding RNAs (miRNAs, long non-coding RNAs and circRNAS, among others) which are transferred to recipient cells and may have a profound impact in either their survival or functionality.

Background: This study explored the serum concentrations of miR-26 in patients with carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) and defined the roles and mechanisms of miR-26 derived from the exosomes of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSC-exos).
Methods: The carotid artery width was diagnosed by ultrasound examination in patients with different degrees of CAS. The serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients were detected by biochemistry.

Background: Histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) has been studied in chronic heart failure (CHF), while the regulatory mechanism of HDAC3 on the development of CHF in regulating microRNA (miR)-26b-3p/high mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2) axis has not been extensively investigated. This study aimed to probe the effects of HDAC3, miR-26b-3p and HMGA2 on CHF.
Methods: CHF rat models were established using aortic coarctation.
