Here, we report an increase in biomass yield and saccharification in transgenic tobacco plants (.) overexpressing thermostable β-glucosidase from , , targeted to the chloroplasts and vacuoles. The transgenic tobacco plants showed phenotypic characteristics that were significantly different from those of the wild-type plants. The biomass yield and life cycle (from germination to flowering and harvest) of the transgenic tobacco plants overexpressing were 52% higher and 36% shorter than those of the wild-type tobacco plants, respectively, indicating a change in the genome transcription levels in the transgenic tobacco plants. Saccharification in biomass samples from the transgenic tobacco plants was 92% higher than that in biomass samples from the wild-type tobacco plants. The transgenic tobacco plants required a total investment (US$/year) corresponding to 52.9% of that required for the wild-type tobacco plants, but the total biomass yield (kg/year) of the transgenic tobacco plants was 43% higher than that of the wild-type tobacco plants. This approach could be applied to other plants to increase biomass yields and overproduce β-glucosidase for lignocellulose conversion.

Background: The photothermal sensitivity of tobacco refers to how tobacco plants respond to variations in the photothermal conditions of their growth environment. The degree of this sensitivity is crucial for determining the optimal planting regions for specific varieties, as well as for improving the quality and yield of tobacco leaves. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the development of photothermal sensitivity in tobacco remain unclear.

The effects of low-intensity ultrasound on plants such as piezoelectric and ultrasonic water baths, on plants have been extensively studied. However, the specific effect of airborne ultrasound on plant cells has yet to be reported. The present study was conducted to elucidate the physiological responses of plant cells to airborne US.

Tobacco is an economic crop that primarily relies on nitrate (NO) as its nitrogen source, and tobacco aphid is one of the significant pests that harm its growth. However, the impact of NO supply on the resistance of tobacco to aphids remains unclear. Present study investigated the effects of different NO concentrations supply on the reproductive capacity of tobacco aphids, impact of aphid infestation on tobacco growth, secondary metabolic and transcription changes.

To explore the effects of salt-tolerance gene accumulation on salt tolerance in transgenic plant, we used four types of plant expression vector (N27, N28, N29, and N30) carrying mtlD, mtlD + gutD, mtlD + gutD + BADH, mtlD + gutD + BADH + sacB genes respectively, to transform tobacco through Agrobacterium-mediated method. Transgenic lines were identified through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection. Transgenic lines and non-transgenic plant (CK) were subjected to 6‰ sodium chloride solution stress; then, fluorescence quantitative PCR (FQ-PCR) and salt tolerance indexes were used to assess characteristics.

The major phytochemicals in the roots of Cudrania tricuspidata are prenylated xanthones, exhibiting significant structural diversity and bioactive properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and antitumor effects. The biosynthetic pathways of these compounds have not yet been resolved, limiting their production through synthetic biology. In this study, benzoyl-coenzyme A (CoA) ligase (BZL), benzophenone synthase (BPS), and benzophenone 3'-hydroxylase (B3'H) transcripts involved in the biosynthesis of xanthone were cloned and characterized from C.
