Membrane separation has been widely used in water purification, and mesoporous ceramic membranes show a high potential in the future because of their high stability and resistance to harsh environments. In the current study, a novel polymer-derived ceramic silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) membrane was developed via a preceramic reactive self-sacrificed method and was further applied in a homemade dead-end system for water purification. A cyclosiloxane hybrid polymer was selected as the precursor and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was used as the sacrificial template. Membrane pores were formed because of template removal during the sintering process, creating channels for water transportation. The pore size and porosity could be readily adjusted by changing the amounts and types of PDMS used in the fabrication process. The as-prepared SiOC membrane showed a high water permeability (140 LMH@2.5 bar) and high removal rate of rhodamine B (RhB), demonstrating its potential applications in water treatment. This work would provide an easy and scalable method to prepare ceramic membranes with a controlled pore size, which could be used for different water treatment applications.

The rapid expansion of the cosmetics industry has significantly increased the adoption of alternative microplastics in response to increasingly stringent global environmental regulations. This study presents a comparative analysis of the treatment performance of silica powder and cornstarch-common alternatives for microplastics in cosmetics-using ceramic membrane filtration combined with flow imaging microscopy (FlowCam) to analyze particle behavior. Bench-scale crossflow filtration experiments were performed with commercially available alumina ceramic membranes.

Cellulose has outstanding potential for application in energy storage batteries due to its high temperature resistance, high electrolyte affinity, renewability, and suppression of the shuttle effect, but single cellulose membranes still suffer from problems such as inhomogeneous pore distribution and unstable three-dimensional network structure. In this study, a green and sustainable regenerative cellulose (RC)/sodium alginate (SA) gel electrolyte membrane is developed by sol-gel process, the double crosslinked network scaffold centered on Zn was constructed by the synergistic hydrogen-bonding and metal ion- coordination network, the stable and uniform pore structure was also formed. The obtained RC-SA gel electrolyte membrane exhibits outstanding performance, featuring a dual crosslinked network with abundant pore structure and numerous polar groups that effectively enhance Zn transport, significantly improving battery cycling performance.

Groundwater is widely threatened by hazardous manganese and ammonia. In present study, a novel gravity-driven fixed-bed ceramic membrane filtration (GDFBCM) with critical PAC-MnOx-ceramsite filters was built to address these issues. Static ceramsite filters in GDCM significantly increased membrane flux from 11 L/m·h to 18 L/m·h on the 50th day of filtration.
