Eugenol is a volatile phenolic constituent of clove essential oil obtained from buds and leaves. It is a functional ingredient of numerous products which have been used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industry in restricted concentrations. Its derivatives have been used in medicine as a local antiseptic and anesthetic. The wide range of eugenol activities includes antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant. Although eugenol is considered safe as a product, due to the vast range of different applications and extensive use, there has been a great concern about its toxicity in recent years. However, studies about cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of eugenol are very limited and controversial. The pharmacological and toxicological properties of eugenol will be discussed in this review.

Cholinesterase (ChE) inhibitors are under consideration to be used in the treatment of cardiovascular pathologies. A prerequisite to advancing ChE inhibitors into the clinic is their thorough characterization in the heart. The aim here was to provide a detailed analysis of cardiac ChE to understand their molecular composition, localization, and physiological functions.

Background: Drug enantiomers often display distinguishable or even opposite pharmacological and toxicologic activities. Therefore it is of great necessity to discriminate enantiomers for guaranteeing safetyness and effectiveness of chiral drugs. Facile chiral discrimination has long been a noticeable challenge because of the minimal differences in physicochemical properties of enantiomers.

Current lifestyles include calorie-dense diets and late-night food intake, which can lead to circadian misalignment. Our group recently demonstrated that sweet treats before bedtime alter the clock system in healthy rats, increasing metabolic risk factors. Therefore, we aimed to assess the impact of the sweet treat consumption time on the clock system in rats fed a cafeteria diet (CAF).
