The spectroscopic methods commonly used to study mitochondria bioenergetics do not show the diversity of responses within a population of mitochondria (isolated or in a cell), and/or cannot measure individual dynamics. New methodological developments are necessary in order to improve quantitative and kinetic resolutions and eventually gain further insights on individual mitochondrial responses, such as studying activities of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP ). The work reported herein is devoted to study responses of single mitochondria within a large population after isolation from cardiomyocytes.

Objective: To investigate if alternated Epley (EP) and Semont (ST) maneuvers could be more effective than repetition of the same in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of posterior semicircular canal (pBPPV).
Design: We retrospectively reviewed the outcome of pBPPV patients treated with a second maneuver for the persistence of positional nystagmus.
Study Sample: Forty-seven patients underwent 2 STs, 64 with 2 EPs, and 71 EPs followed by ST.

Purpose Of The Review: To define the best up-to-date practical approach to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).
Recent Findings: Both posterior and horizontal canal BPPV canalith repositioning maneuvers (Semont, Epley, and Gufoni's maneuvers) are level 1 evidence treatment for evidence-based medicine. The choice of maneuver (since their efficacy is comparable) is up to the clinician's preferences, failure of the previous maneuver, or movement restrictions of the patient.

Findings: Here, we demonstrate that OP2113 (5-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-3H-1,2-dithiole-3-thione, CAS 532-11-6), synthesized and used as a drug since 1696, does not act as an unspecific antioxidant molecule (i.e., as a radical scavenger) but unexpectedly decreases mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS/H2O2) production by acting as a specific inhibitor of ROS production at the IQ site of complex I of the mitochondrial respiratory chain.

Radiation proctitis is an insidious disease associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. It may develop following the treatment of several cancers by radiotherapy when normal colorectal tissues are present in the irradiation field. There is no unified approach for the assessment and treatment of this disease, partly due to insufficient knowledge about the mechanism involved in the development of radiation proctitis.
