The article presents research on using the adsorption process of aldrin (a chloro-organic pesticide that most often occurs in the environment near expired pesticide burials). The research used three sorbents: two activated carbons and compost from sewage sludge as a low-cost sorbent. Obtained adsorption isotherms belong to the L group according to the Giles classification.

Portable photocatalytic air cleaners: efficiencies and by-product generation.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

April 2016

Beijing Academy of Science and Technology (BJAST), No.27, W.3rd Ring Rd North, Beijing, 100089, China.

Portable photocatalytic air cleaners were investigated in 24 and 48 m(3) emission test chambers with regard to efficiency and by-product generation. For this purpose, formaldehyde, decane, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, toluene, α-pinene and heptanal were doped at sub-ppm concentration levels into the chambers individually and in mixtures. By way of specified test protocols, efficiencies could be distinguished but were strongly dependant on the choice of test compounds, especially on whether single or multi compound dosing was used, and on long-term effects.

Eleven (11) microbial strains capable to decompose insecticide hexachlorcyclohexane (HCH) have been isolated from microbial association resistant to chloro-organic pesticides. On the basis of investigation of morphological, cultural, physiological, biochemical characteristics and results of sequence of gene 16S rRNA it has been established, that the best strain-destructors N 3 and N 9 belong to Pseudomonas putida species, and strain N 6 belongs to Stenotrophomonas maltophilia species.

Chloro-organic compounds are persistent environmental pollutants and affect many reproductive processes. Oxytocin (OT) synthesized in luteal cells is a local regulator of ovarian activity and uterine contractions. Therefore the effect of xenobiotics on the OT prohormone synthesis, secretion of OT and progesterone (P4) from luteal cells and on myometrial contractions during early pregnancy in cows was investigated.
