Ammonium transporter (AMT)-mediated acquisition of ammonium nitrogen from soils is essential for the nitrogen demand of plants, especially for those plants growing in flooded or acidic soils where ammonium is dominant. Recent advances show that AMTs additionally participate in many other physiological processes such as transporting ammonium from symbiotic fungi to plants, transporting ammonium from roots to shoots, transferring ammonium in leaves and reproductive organs, or facilitating resistance to plant diseases via ammonium transport. Besides being a transporter, several AMTs are required for the root development upon ammonium exposure. To avoid the adverse effects of inadequate or excessive intake of ammonium nitrogen on plant growth and development, activities of AMTs are fine-tuned not only at the transcriptional level by the participation of at least four transcription factors, but also at protein level by phosphorylation, pH, endocytosis, and heterotrimerization. Despite these progresses, it is worth noting that stronger growth inhibition, not facilitation, unfortunately occurs when AMT overexpression lines are exposed to optimal or slightly excessive ammonium. This implies that a long road remains towards overcoming potential limiting factors and achieving AMT-facilitated yield increase to accomplish the goal of persistent yield increase under the present high nitrogen input mode in agriculture.

This study evaluated the growth performance of and microalgae cultivated in diluted liquid digestate supplemented with CO, comparing their efficiency to that of a conventional synthetic media. The presence of an initial concentration of ammonium of 125 mg N-NH .L combined with the continuous injection of 1% v/v CO enhanced the optimal growth responses and bioremediation potential for both strains in 200-mL cultures.

A Silicon-containing Oligomeric Charring Agent (CNCSi-DA) containing triazine rings and silicon was designed, synthesized and characterized. CNCSi-DA was chosen as macromolecular coating agent to modify Ammonium Polyphosphate (APP) to be core-shell coating-mixture (APP@CNCSi-DA). The synergistic effects of APP@CNCSi-DA on hydrophobicity, mechanical and flame retardant properties, and mechanism of flame-retardant polypropylene (PP) were studied.

This study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of the photocatalytic efficiency of bismuth-based metal-organic frameworks (Bi-MOFs) and their derivatives, specifically Ag/Bi-MOF and NH /Ag/Bi-MOF, in the degradation of tetracycline (TC) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) under visible light irradiation. Bi-MOFs are promising photocatalysts due to their large surface area, tunable porosity, and unique electronic properties that are favorable for visible light absorption. In this study, Bi-MOFs were synthesized using a solvothermal method, with the incorporation of silver (Ag) and ammonium (NH ) ions to enhance their photocatalytic performance.

A human oral phase followed by a dynamic gastrointestinal digestion and colonic fermentation (simgi®) has been applied to wholemeal rye bread (WRB) and PS-enriched WRB (PS-WRB). The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of these solid and high-fiber food matrices on the metabolism of PS, modulation of the microbiota and production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and ammonium ion after a simulated chronic intake (5 days). In both breads, campesterol, campestanol, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, sitostanol, Δ5-avenasterol, Δ5,24-stigmastadienol, Δ7-stigmastenol, and Δ7-avenasterol were identified, of which only β-sitosterol was metabolized to sitostenone after PS-WRB treatment.

Surfactant chemistry can affect the phenolic foam (PF) properties by controlling the collision and combination of the created bubbles during foam production. The study was accomplished using two surfactant families, nonionic: polysorbate (Tween80) and anionic: sodium and ammonium lauryl sulfates (SLS30 and ALS70) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES270) to manufacture PF foams. Tween80 and SLS30 resulted in foams with the lowest and highest densities, 20.
