An extreme ultraviolet pump and visible-light probe transmission experiment in crystalline LiF, carried out at the Free Electron Laser facility FERMI, revealed an oscillating time dependence of the plasmon mode excited in the high-density high-temperature electron plasma. The effect is interpreted as a fingerprint of the electron-ion interaction: the ion motion, shaped by the electron dynamic screening, induces, in turn, electron density fluctuations that cause the oscillation of the plasmon frequency at the timescale of the ion dynamics. Fitting the high resolution transmission data with an RPA model for the temperature-dependent dielectric function, which includes electron self-energy and electron-ion coupling, confirms the interpretation of the time modulation of the plasmon mode.

Batteries composed of CF cathodes have high theoretical specific capacities (>860 mA h g). Attempts at realizing such batteries coupled with Li anodes have failed to deliver on this promise, however, due to a discharge voltage plateau below the theoretical maximum lowering the realized energy density and difficulties with recharging the system. In this study, we use first-principles calculations to investigate novel carbon allotropes for these battery systems: graphdiyne and "holey" graphene.

Insufficient ionic conductivity, limited Li transfer number (t+), and narrow electrochemical windows have heavily restricted the actual application of PEO (poly(ethylene) oxide)-based polymer electrolytes (PEs). Herein, a novel deep eutectic solvent (DES)-based PEO PE for stabilizing high voltage lithium metal battery (LMB) is designed. The DES reduces the crystallinity of PEO while promoting the dissociation of LiTFSI to release more free Li, thus facilitating the transport of Li in the PEO matrix.

Lithium-metal batteries are currently recognized as promising next-generation technologies owing to their high energy density. Solid polymer electrolytes, particularly those based on polyethylene oxide (PEO), are lauded for their leakage resistance, safety, and flexible design. Despite the ongoing fire safety- and ionic conductivity-related concerns, a novel noncombustible solid polymer electrolytes with superior ionic conductivities are introduced here with additive decabromodiphenyl ethane and zeolite.

Many applications are suggested for Ti-MXene motivating strong interest in studies of TiCT synthesis by solution-based methods. However, so far only ex situ studies of the synthesis are performed, mostly due to the difficulty of handling HF-based solutions. Here the first time-resolved in situ synchrotron radiation X-ray Diffraction study of MXene synthesis performed using a plastic capillary-size reaction cell directly in HF solution is reported.

Plastic-crystal-embedded elastomer electrolytes (PCEEs), produced through polymerization-induced phase separation (PIPS), are gaining popularity as solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs). However, it remains to be investigated whether all monomer molecules can achieve polymerization-induced phase separation and the corresponding differences in lithium metal battery performance. Herein, we prepared PCEEs with different functional groups (OH, CN, F) through in situ polymerization.
