Neurosurgical complications are a rich source for learning, but they are grossly underutilized for the purpose of surgeon education. Details of the complications, which make them all the more powerful as teaching tools, are restricted to morbidity and mortality conferences behind closed doors, and open discussions of the topic are blurred by hypotheticals in order to shield the presenters from medicolegal risks. In this issue of Neurosurgical Focus, 9 neurosurgeons were invited to present complications they encountered along with the details and specific lessons they learned.

Mapping the intersection of sudden cardiac death and COVID-19: a comprehensive bibliometric analysis (2020-2024).

Front Cardiovasc Med

November 2024

Department of Health, Haryana Civil Medical Services (HCMS), Panchkula, India.

Article Synopsis
  • A comprehensive study was conducted to explore the relationship between Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) and COVID-19, using a bibliometric analysis of literature from January 2020 to August 2024.
  • The analysis retrieved 2,915 articles, primarily original research, with a spike in publications in 2021, suggesting a strong focus on the cardiovascular effects of COVID-19 during the pandemic.
  • Key contributors included institutions like Harvard and the Mayo Clinic, with top countries like the U.S., China, and the U.K. leading in research output, although a decline in publications post-2021 hints at shifting research priorities.

Globally, millions of individuals access services and opportunities on a daily basis using different modes of motorized and non-motorized transportation. However, in the global south, the role of public transport in providing access to services is relatively under-researched due to non-functional public transport services and poor infrastructure. This paper uses data from the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) to empirically contribute to the discourse on how public transport availability varies across different residential locations and assess if there is equitable access to Public Transport Infrastructure and Services (PTIS) across urban and peri-urban areas.

In this article, we test and compare several message-based nudges designed to promote civil discourse and reduce the circulation of harmful content such as hate speech. We conducted a large pre-registered experiment ( = 4,081) to measure the effectiveness of seven nudges: making descriptive norms, injunctive norms, or personal norms salient, cooling down negative emotions, stimulating deliberation or empathy, and highlighting reputation. We used an online platform that reproduces a social media newsfeed and presented the nudge as a message when entering the platform.
