Semiconductor nanowires are routinely grown on high-priced crystalline substrates as it is extremely challenging to grow directly on plastics and flexible substrates due to high-temperature requirements and substrate preparation. At the same time, plastic substrates can offer many advantages such as extremely low price, light weight, mechanical flexibility, shock and thermal resistance, and biocompatibility. We explore the direct growth of high-quality III-V nanowires on flexible plastic substrates by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). We synthesize InAs and InP nanowires on polyimide and show that the fabricated NWs are optically active with strong light emission in the mid-infrared range. We create a monolithic flexible nanowire-based p-n junction device on plastic in just two fabrication steps. Overall, we demonstrate that III-V nanowires can be synthesized directly on flexible plastic substrates inside a MOVPE reactor, and we believe that our results will further advance the development of the nanowire-based flexible electronic devices.

Schwann cells (SCs) hold key roles in axonal function and maintenance in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and are a critical component to the regeneration process following trauma. Following PNS trauma, SCs respond to both physical and chemical signals to modify phenotype and assist in the regeneration of damaged axons and extracellular matrix (ECM). There is currently a lack of knowledge regarding the SC response to dynamic, temporal changes in the ECM brought on by swelling and the development of scar tissue as part of the body's wound-healing process.

To survey how cells from different tissue types respond to various changes in ECM mechanics and composition, we measured physical characteristics (adherent area, shape, cell stiffness, and cell speed) of 25 cancer and 5 non-tumorigenic cell lines on 7 different substrate conditions. Our results indicate substantial heterogeneity in how cell mechanics changes within and across tissue types in response to mechanosensitive and chemosensitive changes in ECM.

Managing plastic waste is one of the greatest challenges humanity faces in the coming years. Current strategies-landfilling, incineration, and recycling-remain insufficient or pose significant environmental concerns, failing to address the growing volume of plastic residues discharged into the environment. Recently, increasing attention has focused on the potential of certain insect larvae species to chew, consume, and partially biodegrade synthetic polymers such as polystyrene and polyethylene, offering novel biotechnological opportunities for plastic waste management.

Plastics play an essential role in modern fisheries and their degradation releases micro- and nano-sized plastic particles which further causes ecological and human health hazards through various environmental contamination pathways and toxicity mechanisms, which can cause respiratory problems, cancer, reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption and neurological effects in humans. This study utilized various bioinformatics tools through multi-step computational analyses to investigate the interactions between prevalent fisheries microplastics and the key protein receptor acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is associated with neurotoxicity, as it can interfere with nerve impulses and muscle control. Our results indicate that the binding of seven polymers within AChE's active site, with dodecane and polypropylene exhibited highest affinity with hydrogen bonding were observed through Molecular docking of different program (PyRx) and servers (CB-Dock, eDock) then the stability of AChE-dodecane and AChE-polypropylene complexes were observed through MD simulations for 100 ns.

Three-dimensional Mechatronic Integrated Devices (3D-MIDs) combine mechanical and electrical functions, enabling significant component miniaturization and enhanced functionality. However, their application in high-temperature environments remains limited due to material challenges. Existing research highlights the thermal stability of ceramic substrates; yet, their reliability under high-stress and complex mechanical loading conditions remains a challenge.
