Three different modes of aldehyde/alkyne assembly through a controlled radical reaction are devised. While a double C-H activation/annulation leads to indenones, a concurrent oxidation of both aldehydes and alkynes in the course of their connection offers aroyloxy ketones. Besides two types of cascade reactions starting from identical materials, through a phenylpropiolic acid substrate, a cascade three C-C bond formation via an uninterrupted C-H functionalization/annulation/decarboxylative aroylation as a formidable challenge in radical reactions occurs to deliver 2-aroyl-3-aryl indenones.

For the effective removal of phenol from the environment, photocatalytic synergistic adsorption is currently one of the key methods. By leveraging the polysaccharide backbone structure of sodium alginate (SA),Zinc hydroxystannate (ZHS) was introduced into the gel structure using a co-precipitation technique. Additionally, gangue waste was repurposed through a polymerization reaction.

Ferroptosis, a type of programmed cell death, represents a distinct paradigm in cell biology. It is characterized by the iron-dependent accumulation of reactive oxygen species, which induce lipid peroxidation (LPO), and is orchestrated by the interplay between iron, lipid peroxides, and glutathione. In this review, we emphasize the frequently overlooked role of iron in LPO beyond the classical iron-driven Fenton reaction in several crucial processes that regulate cellular iron homeostasis, including iron intake and export as well as ferritinophagy, and the emerging roles of endoplasmic reticulum-resident flavoprotein oxidoreductases, especially P450 oxidoreductases, in modulating LPO.

Structural diversity can affect the degradability of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) during water treatment. Here, three PFASs with different functional groups-CF-R, PFHpA, PFHxS, and 6:2 FTS-were degraded using vacuum ultraviolet (VUV/UV)-based treatments. While fully fluorinated PFASs-PFHpA and PFHxS-were degraded faster in the VUV/UV/sulfite reaction than in VUV/UV photolysis, VUV/UV photolysis was more effective for degrading 6:2 FTS by OH radicals produced through photolysis of water.

The search for novel cholinesterase inhibitors is essential for advancing treatments for neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, we employed the Rosetta pepspec module, originally developed for designing peptides targeting protein-protein interactions, to design de novo peptides targeting the peripheral aromatic site (PAS) of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). A total of nine peptides were designed for human AChE (hAChE), T.

A small but growing set of radical SAM (-adenosyl-l-methionine) enzymes catalyze the radical mediated dehydration or dehydrogenation of 1,2-diol substrates. In some cases, these activities can be interchanged via minor structural perturbations to the reacting components raising questions regarding the relative importance of hyperconjugation, proton circulation and leaving group stability in determining the reaction outcome. The present work describes trapping and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) characterization of an α-hydroxyalkyl radical intermediate during dehydration and dehydrogenation of cytosylglucuronic acid and its derivatives catalyzed by the radical SAM enzyme BlsE and its Glu189Ala mutant from the blasticidin S biosynthetic pathway.
