Iodine catalysis was developed for aliphatic fluorination through light-promoted homolytic C-H bond cleavage. The intermediary formation of amidyl radicals enables selective C-H functionalization via carbon-centered radicals. For the subsequent C-F bond formation, previous methods have typically been limited by a requirement for electrophilic fluorine reagents. We here demonstrate that the intermediary instalment of a carbon-iodine bond sets the stage for an umpolung, thereby establishing an unprecedented nucleophilic fluorination pathway.

Objectives: The relationship between iodine status and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is inconclusive. This study aimed to explore the trajectories of urinary iodine concentrations (UIC) in pregnant women before GDM diagnosis and to assess the associations between maternal UIC trajectories and the risk of developing GDM.
Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in China.

Rice (Oryza sativa) is a vital food crop and staple diet for most of the world's population. Poor dietary choices have had a significant role in the development of type-2 diabetes in the population that relies on rice and rice-starch-based foods. Hence, our study investigated the in vitro digestion and glycemic indices of certain indigenous rice cultivars and the factors influencing these indices.

A single-component flavin-dependent halogenase, AetF, has emerged as an attractive biocatalyst for catalyzing halogenation. However, its flavin chemistry remains unexplored and cannot be predicted due to its uniqueness in sequence and structure compared to other flavin-dependent monooxygenases. Here, we investigated the flavin reactions of AetF using transient kinetics.

Herein, we report a Ni-catalyzed cross-electrophile coupling of aryl/vinyl halides with benzothiazolium salts derived from alcohols. Our findings demonstrate that primary alkyl benzothiazolium salts serve as effective C(sp)-O substrates, facilitating coupling with aryl and vinyl halides. This method not only enables the formal functionalization of primary alcohols but also provides experimental support for previously established sequential alcohol halogenation and Ni-catalyzed reductive coupling platforms.

The synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by low energy input has been a long-term target for practical applications yet remains a great challenge. Herein, we developed a low-energy MOF growth strategy at a temperature down to 50 °C by simply introducing seeds into the reaction system. The MOFs are continuously grown on the surface of the seeds at a growth rate dozens of times higher than that of conventional solvothermal synthesis at low temperature, while the resulting MOFs possess high crystallinity, porosity, and stability similar to solvothermal seeds.
