The dataset in this report is related to the research article entitled: "Salivary gland transcriptome of the Asiatic " [1]. Lipocalin family proteins were identified as the dominant component in saliva, and phylogenetic analysis of the salivary lipocalins resulted in the formation of five major clades (clade I-V). For further characterization, each clade of lipocalin was subjected to alignment and phylogenetic analyses together with homologous triatomine lipocalins: procalin, a major allergen in saliva and its homologue Td04 from (clade I), pallidipin and triplatin, inhibitors of collagen-induced platelet aggregation identified from and , respectively, and their homologue Pc20 identified from (clade II), Td30 and Td38 from with unknown functions (clade III), triatin-like salivary lipocalins, Pc58 and Pc226 identified from and Td18 from (clade IV), and triafestin, an inhibitor of the activation of the kallikrein-kinin system, identified from saliva and its homologues, Td25 and Td40 from and Pc64 from (clade V).

LCN2, a member of the lipocalin family, is associated with various tumors and inflammatory conditions. Despite the availability of known inhibitors, none have been approved for clinical use. In this study, marine compounds were screened for their ability to inhibit LCN2 using pharmacophore models.

In viviparous black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii), the kidney of reproductive-phase males actively produces lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase homolog (LPGDSh) protein, which is presumably involved in inter-sexual communication when emitted in the urine. The present study was undertaken to discover whether androgens and their nuclear receptors (Ars) are engaged in regulation of renal LPGDSh protein synthesis in black rockfish. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, in conjunction with immunohistochemistry and highly sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, revealed that intra-abdominal administration of a synthetic androgen, 17α-methyltestosterone (MT), to juvenile black rockfish induced their renal expression of LPGDSh transcript and protein.

Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) presents a severe challenge in the elderly due to increasing incidence, high mortality, and the lack of specific effective treatments. Exploring novel and secure preventive and/or therapeutic approaches is critical and urgent. Berberine (BBR), an isoquinoline alkaloid with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties, has shown beneficial effects in various kidney diseases.

Sepsis-induced liver injury (SILI) is an independent risk factor for organ dysfunction and mortality in critical care units. In this study, the roles of lipocalin 2 (LCN2) in SILI were investigated because LCN2 expression was increased in liver tissues of the septic mice induced by caecal ligation and puncture (CLP), as well as in hepatocytes treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). To evaluate liver injury in mice, the levels of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were measured in both serum and liver tissues.
