To investigate the differences in intestinal microbiota between diarrhea irritable bowel syndrome mice (IBS-D) and healthy mice and to explore the effects of Jianpi mixture on intestinal microbes' changes in IBS-D mice based on 16S rDNA sequencing analysis. 48 young ICR male mice were randomly divided into four groups ( = 12): (1) control group, (2) IBS-D group fed with distilled water, (3) IBS-D group fed with lactic acid bacteria compound, and (4) IBS-D group fed with Jianpi mixture for 14 days. At the end of the treatment period, 5 mice were randomly selected from each group, and then the changes in intestinal microbiota in the mice before and after treatment were analyzed by 16S rDNA high-throughput gene sequencing. Compared with the control group, the species richness and species diversity of intestinal microbiota in feces and intestinal mucosa of IBS-D mice were decreased ( < 0.05); IBS-D mice showed changes in composition of and in ratio of the intestinal microbiota in feces and intestinal mucosa at the level of phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. Treatment with Jianpi mixture increased the species diversity of intestinal microbiota in IBS-D mice ( < 0.05) and the abundance of beneficial bacteria ( < 0.05) and decreased the abundance of harmful bacteria ( < 0.05) at the level of phylum and genus. Compared with healthy mice, the species richness and species diversity of intestinal microbiota of IBS-D mice are decreased. The intervention with Jianpi mixture can improve its diversity and regulate the equilibrium between beneficial and harmful bacteria.

Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths globally. The gut microbiota, along with adenomatous polyps (AP), has emerged as a plausible contributor to CRC progression. This study aimed to scrutinize the impact of the FadA antigen derived from Fusobacterium nucleatum on the expression levels of the ANXA2 ceRNA network and assess its relevance to CRC advancement.

Introduction/objectives: Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic inflammatory and difficult-to-treat autoimmune disease. Timosaponin AIII (TAIII), a plant-derived steroidal saponin, effectively inhibits cell proliferation, induces apoptosis, and exhibits anti-inflammatory properties. This study explored the mechanisms of action of TAIII in SS treatment by studying gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) using fecal metabolomics.

Gut mucosal immunity of teleost is mainly governed by mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (MALT) and indigenous microbiota on mucosal surfaces of gut tract, which can confer protection against pathogenic invasion. However, the probiotic features of bacterial isolates from gut tract of triploid cyprinid fish (TCF) were largely unclear. In this study, Lysinibacillus and Enterobacter strains were isolated for probiotic identification.

The widespread use of antibiotics has led to the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria, which pose significant threats to animal health and food safety. Host defense peptides (HDPs) have emerged as promising alternatives because of their unique antimicrobial properties and minimal resistance induction. However, the high costs associated with HDP production and incorporation into animal management practices hinder their widespread application.

Acetaminophen induced acute liver injury (ALI) has a high incidence and is a serious medical problem, but there is a lack of effective treatment. The enterohepatic axis is one of the targets of recent attention due to its important role in liver diseases. Disulfiram (DSF) is a multitarget drug that has been proven to play a role in a variety of liver diseases and can affect intestinal flora, but whether it can alleviate ALI is not clear.
