A highly efficient and sustainable strategy for the production of functional and thermostable cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) was developed in this work. In which, the acid hydrolysis system composed with small doses of HSO (5-10%) and large amounts of easily recoverable acetic acid (70-90%) was used to hydrolyze cellulose pulp at 80 °C for several hours. The rod-like CNCs were obtained with the length of 150-500 nm and diameter of 5-20 nm in high yield (Y = 81%). The resulted CNCs showed high thermal stability and excellent dispersion stability in both aqueous and organic phases. The acetic acid in the hydrolysis system can be completely recovered by vacuum distillation, and the dosage of sulfuric acid can be reduced significantly compared with the traditional sulfuric acid hydrolysis. Thus, this approach is promising for the large-scale and sustainable preparation of CNCs with excellent water dispersibility and good thermal stability, with less environmental issues.

DEAD-box RNA-dependent ATPases are ubiquitous in all domains of life where they bind and remodel RNA and RNA-protein complexes. DEAD-box ATPases with helicase activity unwind RNA duplexes by local opening of helical regions without directional movement through the duplexes and some of these enzymes, including Ded1p from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, oligomerize to effectively unwind RNA duplexes. Whether and how DEAD-box helicases coordinate oligomerization and unwinding is not known and it is unclear how many base pairs are actively opened.

Starch-rich faba bean, yellow lentil, and yellow field pea flours were subjected to submerged fermentation using Aspergillus oryzae and Lactobacillus plantarum starter mono- or co-cultures, to increase protein contents of the flours. Fermentation mixes were supplemented with up to 35 g/L urea, ammonium sulfate and/or monoammonium phosphate as nitrogen sources. Protein contents of the flours increased 2-2.

This study identified the amino acid sequences of peptides generated from the enzymatic hydrolysis of goat milk proteins from two different sources and annotated their functional activities. Peptidomics and molecular docking approaches were used to investigate the antioxidant and ACE inhibitory properties of the unique peptides, revealing the molecular mechanisms underlying their bioactivity. In vitro experiments showed that the IC50 values for ACE inhibition of the four peptides (LSMTDTR, QEALELIR, NIPVGILR, and QAQNVQHY) were 2.

Enzymatic hydrolysis approach is commonly employed for preparation of active peptides, while the limited purity and yield of produced peptides hinder further development of action mechanisms. This study presents the biotechnological approach for the efficient production of recombinant angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptide LYPVK and investigates its potential antihypertensive action mechanism. DNA encoding sequence of recombinant peptide was designed to form in tandem, which was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3).
